For fans of '90s neurotic sitcoms, it doesn't get much better than Seinfeld and Frasier. The former, set in New York City, centers around the fictionalized life of comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his closest friends. The latter, set in Seattle, is a Cheers spin-off about the life of radio show psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane.
In both series, romantic encounters and liaisons play prominently into the plot. From break-ups to relationships that endure, Seinfeld and Frasier both handle the melodramatic aspects of dating in intelligent, hilarious ways. This raises an important question: what would happen if characters from Seinfeld coupled up with characters from Frasier?
Would Work: Jerry Seinfeld & Daphne Moon
If there's one thing Jerry Seinfeld and Daphne Moon have in common, it's their endless optimism. While the characters around them revel in negativity, Jerry and Daphne always have smiles on their faces.
While this isn't enough to make a relationship last, they are both quirky and idiosyncratic enough to keep the other on their feet. Jerry won't get bored with Daphne's British accent and hatred for pretentious people, and Daphne will love Jerry's penchant for long-winded storytelling.
Wouldn't Work: Martin Crane & Estelle Costanza
Frasier's dad Marty Crane dates quite a few notable women over the course of his series, but none of these characters come close to George Costanza's mom Estelle. Estelle, a histrionic and hypersensitive woman, would cause Marty to run for the hills.
If there's anything Marty hates, it's being told what to do. There's no doubt Estelle would spend most of her time nitpicking every aspect of Marty's existence - just like she does with her son and husband in Seinfeld.
Would Work: Roz Doyle & Cosmo Kramer
There's no denying the resident sexpots on Frasier and Seinfeld would hit it off. While neither are known for being good at long-term relationships, both Roz and Kramer are independent and confident enough to form a unique bond.
Roz will appreciate Kramer's eccentric worldviews and style, while Kramer will appreciate Roz's independence and outspoken opinions. It may not be the most traditional relationship of all time, but it would definitely work.
Wouldn't Work: George Costanza & Roz Doyle
That being said, Roz would dump George Costanza after the first date. Having dealt with enough habitually insecure men for a lifetime, Roz would definitely let George have it if he tried to pull any of his lame moves on her.
Even if George pulls the infamous Art Vandelay card, Roz will know better. After all, she has her daughter Alice to worry about.
Would Work: Niles Crane & Susan Ross
It's hard to imagine a world where Niles Crane and Daphne Moon don't end up together, but in an alternate universe, Niles would be absolutely smitten with Susan Ross. If Niles were in the picture, Susan wouldn't have to worry about dying after being poisoned by the cheap envelopes purchased by her fiance George Costanza.
Niles loves strong and perceptive women, and he'd be wooed by Susan's status as an NBC executive. They are both quite wealthy, too, so they wouldn't mind enjoying the finer things in life together.
Wouldn't Work: Bebe Glazer & Cosmo Kramer
The oddball Kramer loves eccentric women, and it doesn't get much more eccentric than Frasier's agent Bebe Glazer. This seductive, cunning woman inserts herself into whatever business will garner her more money and more lucrative clients.
Kramer might find Bebe hard to resist at first, but it wouldn't take long for him to realize there's something not quite right with her. Kramer would definitely bolt in the night, ditching Bebe without a trace.
Would Work: Lilith Sternin & George Costanza
Frasier's emotionally distant ex-wife Lilith evolves over the course of the show, but she remains a demanding and intense woman throughout. Lilith loves to be in control, and no one will bend to her will like George Constanza.
At heart, George just wants to be told what to do by a forceful woman. Lilith would have no issues stepping up to the plate, and both characters will get what they want from joining forces romantically.
Wouldn't Work: Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe & Elaine Benes
Elaine Benes dates a lot of dumb men in Seinfeld, and Frasier's Bulldog is the kind of overly confident schmuck who would drive Elaine nuts. Whether it's his obnoxious yelling or his unapologetically misogynistic attitudes toward women, Elaine wouldn't even give him a chance.
In reality, Bulldog is just an insecure guy who acts macho to hide his hurt feelings. What he needs are a few good therapy sessions.
Would Work: Elaine Benes & Frasier Crane
Elaine Benes and Frasier Crane both think they're the best thing since sliced bread. In their respective series, though, they learn to humble themselves and accept the many forces in the world that are out of their control.
If they get beyond Elaine's superficiality and Frasier's pedantic opinions, they could make quite the power couple. They are intelligent, traveled, and even have similar senses of style.
Wouldn't Work: Maris Crane & Everyone On Seinfeld
Maris Crane is the never-seen but often-mentioned wife of Niles Crane. Spoiled, domineering, and obsessed with her body image, Maris is the kind of upper-class socialite who would never cross paths with the cast of Seinfeld.
As Frasier so aptly states, "Maris is like the sun, except without the warmth." With her endless list of allergies and complaints, Maris rules over Niles until their marriage finally dissolves later in the series - giving Niles the opportunity to pursue his true love Daphne Moon.
