Jerry and Elaine broke up right before Seinfeld began, but the two managed to stay best friends throughout the series. They don't discuss their previous relationship often, and because of how open they are about their love interests, it's easy to forget that the two of them ever dated.

But it's always been clear that Jerry and Elaine still harbored feelings for each other even if they were too stubborn to admit it. When Elaine and Jerry go with Geroge to see his girlfriend's performance, Jerry puts a Pez dispenser on Elaine's leg in the middle of the recital.

Elaine starts laughing so hard at the simple gesture, that it echoes throughout the auditorium and she has to step outside to compose herself. It ends up causing problems for George because his girlfriend thinks someone is making fun of her music, but it showcases how close Jerry and Elaine are.

Elaine and Jerry wanted to find a way to have sex without ruining their friendship. They hoped that if they kept the bedroom separate from their everyday lives, they would be able to pull it off.

But Jerry and Elaine find it more difficult than they expected to pull off a casual relationship, given that they still have feelings for each other. Eventually, they decide to just get back together and do "this, that, and the other." But by the next episode, they're no longer in a relationship and the series never addresses what happened between them.

For two people who aren't together, Jerry and Elaine act a lot like a couple. They're always in each other's space, and they're with each other so much it would probably upset their significant others in real life.

Jerry loves to tease Elaine, and it comes off as flirtatious. While they're waiting for a car, Jerry starts tickling Elaine's face with his scarf and asking if it bothers her. They're both wearing huge smilies and anyone watching them would have assumed they were romantically involved.

They say that a person's life flashes before their eyes when they're about to die, and they think about what's most important to them. When Jerry and Elaine thought their plane was about to crash they decide to finally be honest with each other.

Elaine starts to confess her love to Jerry, but before she can finish her sentence, the plane straightens back out. It was a cruel thing for the series to do to fans in the finale, but it implied that Jerry and Elaine were still in love after all that time.

After George and Elaine borrow Jerry's car, they get into a minor accident and it starts to make a clanking noise. George begs Elaine to find a way to lessen Jerry's anger, so she tells him a wild story making it seem like they barely got out of the situation alive.

Jerry is so relieved Elaine is okay, he doesn't even care about the clanking sound. He immediately hugs her, and even though Elaine was lying, it was a soft side of Jerry that viewers don't get to see often.

Going on a trip to visit someone's parents is something that people do when they're in a serious relationship. But Jerry and Elaine go to see them long after they're broken up, and his parents treat Elaine like she's family.

They visit with the intention of going scuba diving, but when Elaine injures her back sleeping in the spare bedroom, they're unable to make it. It sounded more like a couple's vacation than anything else, and it's a shame that Jerry and Elaine couldn't do it together.

They Come Up With A Special Signal

Jerry and Elaine come up with a special signal to give each other when they need to get out of a boring conversation at parties. When one of them pats their head, it's the other's job to swoop in and steal them away.

Having a person who will save them from dull small talk is a relationship goal, but things in Seinfeld never go exactly as planned. Jerry and Elaine both try to send the signal at the same time, and since they're both trapped in their conversation, neither can come to the rescue.

When Jerry starts thinking about what makes him happy in life, he discovers that he wants to be with Elaine. He proposes to her in his kitchen while she's eating a banana, but Elaine runs out of his apartment instead of answering the question.

However, Elaine comes back and tells Jerry that she feels the same way and she wants to marry him too. The moment had passed for Jerry and he blows Elaine off, but the scene is proof that Jerry and Elaine have always known how they feel about each other.

Kramer Calls Them Out On Their Feelings

Anyone with eyes could see that Jerry and Elaine were meant for each other, and Kramer and George both made the observation. When Jerry and Elaine end up in a heated argument, Kramer comes in and yells at them to stop. He gets serious very quickly and asks, "Don't you two see that you're in love with each other?"

It was completely random because it had nothing to do with what they were fighting about, but Kramer goes on to say that they keep running around looking for something that's right in front of them. The irony comes from Kramer being spot on with his assessment, even if Jerry and Elaine are too stubborn to admit it.

Elaine meets a group of friends that look and act just like her own, and she decides to ditch Jerry and hang out with them instead. However, Elaine begins to realize that Jerry's irreplaceable and she can't be herself around just anyone.

Jerry and Elaine are so close that she's able to barge into his apartment and treat it like her own place, but that doesn't fly with her new friends. Elaine also has a tendency to shove Jerry when she's surprised, and when she pushes Jerry 2.0, he falls to the floor and gets hurt.
