While we all love the gang on Seinfeld, especially because they're always quirky and never well-behaved, but many people have a soft spot for Elaine Benes. Played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the character is often getting herself into trouble, and it's so funny to watch.
Since the sitcom aired for nine seasons, Elaine has many moments that are funny, charming, and quotable. But there are several of her scenes that stand out among the rest. Here are Elaine's 10 most hilarious moments on Seinfeld, ranked.
10 Elaine's Antics In Florida
Going to visit family can be fun... but can also result in some funny moments (or perhaps some frustrating moments that are only humorous with a little bit of hindsight). Luckily for Seinfeld fans, we got to watch Jerry and Elaine visit his parents in their Florida condo, and it was definitely hilarious.
When Elaine sleeps on the pull-out couch, she immediately regrets it because her back hurts so much. To make matters even worse, Jerry's mom and dad aren't big on A/C so she's a sweaty mess who is having the worst trip ever. This is one of Elaine's most hilarious moments since takes something for the back pain and gets pretty sloppy.
9 Elaine And The Apartment Noise Issue
Everyone has had a noisy living situation at one point or another, from a dorm where kids stayed out all night to a first apartment with a roommate who couldn't do anything quietly. Elaine has an apartment where she hears a super loud dog at all hours of the night, making it tough to sleep and driving her nuts.
The season seven premiere "The Engagement" features this hilarious Elaine moment. It's not quite as laugh-out-loud funny as her other scenes, which is why it's only at number nine, but it had to be mentioned because she goes so crazy. When Elaine starts getting upset and her hair gets all wild, fans can tell that she's having a bad day.
8 Elaine Tells Jerry She "Faked It"
For a while, it seemed like many TV shows and films included a discussion of "faking it." In the Seinfeld episode "The Mango" which opens the fifth season, Elaine explains to Jerry that while they were together, she, well, pretending.
Jerry asks, "The whole thing, the whole production, it was all an act?" and Elaine says, "Not bad, huh?" This isn't the most original joke ever, so this is only at number eight, but Elaine is so confident and Jerry is so confused that it's a great, classic scene.
7 Elaine Can't Stop Laughing
Elaine's inability to stop laughing in the third season episode "The Pez Dispenser" is one of her most hilarious moments as well. It's not as easily remembered as her other scenes, so it's at number seven, but it couldn't be missed.
Of course, she cracks up when George is playing the piano, so watching a performance isn't the right time to get the giggles. What makes her giggle so much? Jerry has a Pez Dispenser. Yup, this is immature... but that's Jerry and Elaine.
6 "I Can't Spare A Square"
In the season five episode "The Stall," Elaine faces a common public restroom problem: she realizes once she's in there that she doesn't have any toilet paper. She's totally appalled that the woman next to her won't give it to her. In fact, the woman (played by Jami Gertz), says, "No I'm sorry, I can't spare it." She continues, "No, I don't have a square to spare. I can't spare a square."
This scene still has fans laughing to this day and it's one of those little moments on Seinfeld that sums up how strange and silly life can be. It just missed the top five on this list, but it can't be forgotten.
5 Elaine Is Obsessed With Flounder
This Elaine moment had to make it into the top five. It's not quite as classic as the others, which is why it couldn't be ranked higher, but it does make a big impression.
Everyone has a favorite takeout spot and a favorite order. Would they fake where they live just so they could eat it? Maybe not... but that's exactly what Elaine does in the season eight episode "The Pothole." Elaine is obsessed with flounder but runs into a snag when her apartment isn't within the delivery area. She acts like her address is right near the restaurant and even takes over a janitor's closet. This is pure Elaine and pure Seinfeld: a silly scheme that feels just right. The best part? It's fish, not pizza or cake or donuts. Why go to so much trouble for fish?
4 "Maybe The Dingo Ate Your Baby"
Every Seinfeld fan loves the party scene when Elaine says, "Maybe the Dingo ate your baby." It's a perfect moment that is also one of Elaine's most hilarious, making it to the number four spot on this list.
Jerry and Elaine end up at a party that is truly dull, making viewers remember every gathering they've been to where they have felt the same way. An annoying, obnoxious woman says, "I have lost my fiance, the poor baby!" and Elaine responds with her infamous line (complete with an Australian accent). It's so silly and so Elaine.
3 Elaine's Love Of Exclamation Points
In the season five episode "The Sniffing Accountant," it's clear that Elaine truly adores exclamation points... and the fact that her new love interest doesn't? That's a major dealbreaker for her.
The guy that Elaine is dating, Jake (Marty Rackham), isn't into exclamation points. Elaine asks, "Well, I was just curious why you didn't use an exclamation point?" and Jake responds, "What are you talking about? Elaine says, "See, right here you wrote "Myra had the baby", but you didn't use an exclamation point." She continues, "Well, I mean if one of your close friends had a baby and I left you a message about it, I would use an exclamation point." This is a really funny scene, putting it at number three on the list.
2 Are They Spongeworthy?
In the season seven episode "The Sponge," it turns out that the sponge won't be sold anymore so Elaine totally freaks out. This is one of her most hilarious moments on Seinfeld and comes in at number two.
Now that Elaine doesn't have very many sponges left, she has to ask herself a very important question: are the guys that she's dating "spongeworthy?" Although this might seem dated because sponges aren't a popular contraceptive these days, being pickier and making sure that you're dating a good person is definitely relatable.
1 Her Bad Dancing In "The Little Kicks"
Elaine's most famous moment is also her most hilarious: when she dances in the season eight episode "The Little Kicks."
Seinfeld fans can't get enough of watching this character dance it out at a party. She is not self-aware at all and has no clue that she's such a terrible dancer... which makes it even better. When George asks Jerry, "Have you ever seen Elaine dance?" Jerry responds, "Elaine's dance?" George's answer is classic: "More like a full body dry heave set to music." When Elaine learns that no one thinks she's got good moves, she says, "But I really enjoy dancing" and in true Jerry style he responds, "And that's not helping either." This is just one of the many reasons why fans will always love Elaine.
