For a show about silly moments between friends and "nothing," the main characters on Seinfeld dated a lot of people over the sitcom's nine seasons. No relationship lasted very long, as the gang often had a laundry list of reasons why something was wrong with their new partner. The exception was when George asked Susan to marry him and they planned their wedding which, of course, didn't happen.

While the characters did try to find love, they weren't lucky, and there were many love stories on Seinfeld that fizzled out quickly and seemed problematic from the very beginning.

Jerry And Elaine

Jerry and Elaine were together 24/7 and for some viewers, they had a great relationship that should have remained romantic.

Other fans feel that it was right for these characters to break up, as they seemed to better off as friends. They had some problems in the bedroom, as Elaine confessed that she was faking her orgasms during their relationship, and when they tried out a friends-with-benefits situation, things became too complicated. It was clear from the beginning of the series that Jerry and Elaine would never be able to last, and while they didn't have much luck with other people, they couldn't be together.

George And Susan

Susan's death on Seinfeld is famous, and it was clear from the beginning of Susan and George's relationship that they would never last. Of course, viewers didn't think that she would pass away, especially not after licking an envelope.

The couple never felt right together, and George only proposed after he and Jerry decided that maybe it was time to grow up and settle down. Instead of wanting to be with Susan because he loved her for who she was, George didn't even enjoy spending time with her. As they got closer to their wedding, it seemed like George would get cold feet.

Elaine And Puddy

Elaine hated when Puddy painted his face for hockey games, and that was just one thing that she disliked about him.

Elaine and Puddy had a hilarious but terrible relationship, They broke up on a regular basis, which proves that they were too toxic to be together, and they didn't seem to understand or appreciate each other. Instead of inspiring each other to be better people, these characters only annoyed one another and existed in a state of constant chaos.

Jerry And Marla

In the fourth season, Jerry dated Marla, a woman who he found out was a virgin. This seemed to be the only thing about her that he found interesting, besides her beauty, and he became consumed by the thought of sleeping with her.

This wasn't Jerry's finest moment as it was incredibly creepy, and it seemed like they were a poor match from the moment they met. Jerry often discussed his relationships with his friends, and that wasn't always respectful to the person he was dating.

Elaine And Jake

In the season five episode "The Sniffing Accountant," Elaine got mad when the guy she was dating, Jake, didn't write down an exclamation point when taking a phone message. Elaine's friend had given birth, and Elaine didn't understand why Jake wouldn't think that was a thrilling and happy moment that warranted this punctuation.

If Elaine was going to care about such a small and petty detail, she had no business dating Jake, and he probably didn't appreciate how neurotic she was, either.

Jerry And Meryl

In the season five episode "The Wife," Jerry and Meryl decided to fake being married so they could get some perks. It was definitely hilarious, but when fans think about this couple a bit more carefully, they're not a good match.

The joke was that they argued as if they really were married, and that proves that they should have never dated in the first place. No couple should stay together if all they're going to do is fight, and they showed that they were too immature to commit. Instead of lying about their marital status, why didn't they focus on the relationship and getting to know each other better?

Jerry And Marlene

In the second season episode "The Ex-Girlfriend," Jerry and George both went out with Marlene.

Jerry and Marlene were doomed from the start, as he asked her out after she and George broke up. Going out with a friend's ex can definitely lead to complications and drama, and it turned out that Marlene didn't think that Jerry was funny. She broke up with him because she had an awful time watching his stand-up comedy. That was pretty insulting for Jerry, who always took pride in his work. If someone doesn't respect their partner's career, there's no way that they can stay together.

George And Karen

George ruined his relationship with Karen by worrying about their sex life.

George was often insecure around women, and he became even worse when dating Karen. He said that she must have been only pretending to be satisfied, and she was really angry about that. If George and Karen were meant to be, then perhaps George wouldn't have been so concerned about this and he would have just enjoyed spending time with Karen. It's fair to say that George wasn't at a place in his life where he could be in a serious and committed relationship.

Jerry And Dolores

When Jerry dated Dolores, he had trouble remembering her name, and the joke is that it rhymes with a part of a woman's body. Viewers didn't know much about Dolores besides this running commentary on her name.

Not knowing someone's name is pretty terrible, so it was hard to imagine that this was going to be an epic and sweeping romance. Jerry dated a lot of women on the show and he never seemed to be deeply in love, and this wasn't a time when he seemed to have found his perfect match, either.

George And Vivian

Seinfeld George Vivian

George had many plotlines about his insecurity, but sometimes, he felt like he was totally winning at life.

In the ninth season episode "The Blood," George felt that he had it all. He dated a beautiful woman named Vivian and while they were in bed together, he enjoyed a pastrami sandwich. He decided that he wanted "the trifecta" of sex, food, and TV, and this didn't work out so well. George and Vivian seemed doomed from the beginning because while this was a funny storyline, it seemed like George was more obsessed with his plan than getting to know Vivian as a person.
