SEGA has recently announced that it is working on a massive project that could bring together some of its biggest franchises. The Japanese mega-publisher is known for a wide range of gaming properties like Sonic The Hedgehog, Persona, and the Yakuza series. Even after SEGA abandoned the console market in the early 2000s, its games have continued to find an audience across all major platforms - including those belonging to its former rival Nintendo. Sonic Frontiers will be the company's latest game when it launches next month, and mainline Persona games like Persona 3 and Persona 5 are finally being released on the Nintendo Switch.

A few days ago, SEGA announced that it is planning to release a new “Super Game” in its latest fiscal report (via Eurogamer). This untitled project will supposedly launch sometime around March 2026 and will strongly emphasize building a large community of not only players but "streamers who stream the game and viewers who watch their videos.” Sega CEO Haruki Satomi states that his company’s goal with this “Super Game” is to “create a game so revolutionary that it attracts far more active users than any of the Group's games to date,” and while details surrounding this new project are still scarce, it is thought that the larger “Super Game” could be used to host smaller games within its structure - not unlike Roblox.

SEGA’s Massive “Super Game” Is Coming In 2026

SEGA previously hinted at this new “Super Game” project back in 2021, and some have speculated that it could feature a crossover of some of the studio’s biggest IPs like Sonic The Hedgehog and Persona. Some of Satomi’s statements during this week’s “Super Game” announcement seem to support this idea, as he stressed SEGA’s devotion to further developing its brands through remakes, remasters, and subscription-based services. SEGA is also working on a free-to-play title, but it isn’t clear if this is connected to the previously-mentioned “Super Game.”

If SEGA’s new “Super Game” is indeed a massive-scale crossover of its biggest gaming franchises, it wouldn’t be the first time SEGA’s characters have shared the spotlight. Both the titular Sonic The Hedgehog and Joker from Persona 5 appeared as guest fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing games allowed mascots from Sonic, Shenmue, and Crazy Taxi to challenge each other in over-the-top, Mario Kart-style races.

SEGA’s “Super Game” could take this concept to the next level by allowing players to interact with each other as their favorite SEGA characters in a massive online framework similar to Roblox or Fortnite. SEGA hopes to build a large community of players and streamers with its ambitious new project, which should be released sometime near March 2026 if all goes according to plan. In the meantime, SEGA fans should stay tuned for new developments as they unfold.
