Jennifer Tilly, the actress behind the murderous doll, Tiffany Valentine, in the Chucky franchise, reveals the studio complained that Seed of Chucky was "too gay." Tilly joined the franchise as Tiffany in 1998's Bride of Chucky, which was released 10 years after the original Child's Play hit theaters. Despite her late arrival to the franchise, Tilly's character quickly became a fan-favorite and an integral part of the Chucky mythology.

Known for her bleached blonde hair and gothic fashion style, Tiffany serves as the love interest of Chucky, who is a toy doll possessed by the serial killer Charles Lee Ray. Before he was gunned down in a toy store and transferred his soul to the doll, the story goes, Charles brought two woman, Tiffany and Delilah, home from a nightclub in 1980. When Charles produced a knife and threatened to stab the women, Tiffany enthusiastically encouraged Charles to stab Delilah. Sensing no fear in Tiffany, Charles stabbed Delilah and had Tiffany finish her off. From that moment, the murderous pair became inseparable. So much so, that after having her soul transferred into a bridal doll, Chucky proposed to Tiffany, which eventually lead to their doll offspring, Glen, in 2004's Seed of Chucky.

Tilly sat down with ComicBook.com for an interview and revealed that the movie studio originally complained that Seed of Chucky was "too gay" and "too funny." According to the actress, the studio also thought "there was too much Jennifer Tilly" in the film. Tilly further explains that the studio told her "you've had your fun. Let's put that to rest." This prompted Tilly to understand that future movies in the franchise would be "a whole new situation." View Tilly's quote about the movie studio finding Seed of Chucky too gay below:

"I sort of understood that I couldn't play Tiffany forever. And after Seed of Chucky, the studio was like, 'That was too gay, it was too funny, and there was too much Jennifer Tilly;' because Seed of Chucky was sort of the apex of gayness that we had John Waters and the genderfluid kid and me walking around making wisecracks and I was a doll and Jennifer Tilly. So they sort of like, 'Okay, you've had your fun. Let's put that to rest.' So I understood it was going to be a whole new situation."

Based on the studio's response to Seed of Chucky, it led Tilly to doubt if she'd ever be back as Tiffany in the Chucky franchise. However, the actress did return as the murderous love interest of Chucky in 2013's Curse of Chucky, as well as 2017's Cult of Chucky. Tilly is also reprising the iconic role in SYFY and USA Network's recent Chucky TV series that premiered back on October 12. Concerning her latest outing as Tiffany, Tilly says it was "fabulous to get on set" and "strut around" to do all the stuff she hadn't done "for a long time." Ultimately, Tilly loves playing Tiffany because she's "a fun, campy delight."

Despite the movie studio's complaints about Seed of Chucky, Tilly's character has continued to pop up throughout the franchise. While the later films in the franchise suffered from poor critical reception, fans still enjoyed watching both Chucky and Tiffany wreak havoc on the world. These same fans can look forward to seeing Tilly reprising her role in the Chucky TV series that airs every Tuesday on SYFY and USA.
