Secret Life Of Pets 2 Trailer Introduces Tiffany Haddish's Daisy

The latest trailer and poster for Secret Life of Pets 2 introduce Daisy, a brand-new character voiced by Tiffany Haddish. Illumination's Secret Life of Pets was a monster success in theaters and ultimately went on to gross $875 million at the worldwide box office, three years ago. In doing so, the production gave its animation studio yet another feather to add to its cap, to go along with equally lucrative brands like Despicable Me, Minions, and even the pop music-fueled Sing franchise.

Like the first movie, Secret Life of Pets 2 was written by Brian Lynch and directed by Chris Renaud. There were some changes made to the returning cast - specifically, Louis CK was dropped and replaced by Patton Oswalt as the voice of Max the Jack Russell Terrier - but, otherwise, the original Secret Life of Pets voice crew came back for the sequel. They're joined by a handful of newcomers here, starting with Haddish.

Haddish's character, the Shih Tzu Daisy, actually popped up at the end of the first Secret Life of Pets 2 trailer (which otherwise focused on Max). Chloe the cat and Snowball the white rabbit - once again voiced by Lake Bell and Kevin Hart, respectively - have since gotten character trailers of their own, to go with the original teaser. Now, it's Daisy's turn, as you can see from the video and poster below.

The Daisy trailer is the first Secret Life of Pets 2 promo to shed light on the film's actual plot. It seems Snowball's costumed superhero identity, "Captain Snowball", isn't just a one-off joke; rather, Daisy recruits Snowball's alter ego to rescue a snow tiger named Hu in the movie. The implication is Secret Life of Pets 2 focuses more on Snowball than its predecessor did, which only makes sense in light of how popular the character's become since his debut. This also makes the film an unexpected reunion for Haddish and Hart as a comedy duo, after last year's Night School.

Beyond that, it appears Illumination plans to keep going with this teaser trailer approach to marketing Secret Life of Pets 2 until further notice. There are still a handful of returning characters who haven't gotten trailers yet (Pops, Buddy, Mel, Tiberius), and that's not including the new additions voiced by Nick Kroll and Harrison Ford. With the animated sequels The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World arriving next month, there's a decent chance both films will bring fresh Secret Life of Pets 2 teasers with them. It's a smart way to keep moviegoers buzzing about the film, all things considered.
