The new trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2 shifts the focus to Chloe the cat, as once again voiced by Lake Bell. Chloe, Max, and the rest of the furry gang were introduced to the big screen two years ago, when the original Secret Life of Pets hit theaters in July 2016. The film went over pretty well with critics and ended up becoming a huge success at the worldwide box office, where it took in $875 million against a $75 million production budget. As such, Illumination was quick to green-light a sequel to the animated movie.

Like its predecessor, The Secret Life of Pets 2 was written by Brian Lynch, directed by Chris Renaud, and features a star-studded voice cast that includes Kevin Hart, Eric Stonestreet, Hannibal Buress, Jenny Slate, and Albert Brooks, in addition to Bell. Illumation is keeping the sequel's plot a secret for the time being and has been focusing instead on the film's beloved pets with its marketing so far. The first trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2 dropped earlier this month and revolved around Max the dog (now voiced by Patton Oswalt) as he took an unexpected trip to the vet. Now, the studio has unveiled a second teaser that shifts the spotlight over to Chloe.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 Chloe trailer is now online and may start screening in theaters with select prints of fellow animated sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet over the Thanksgiving frame. You can watch the trailer in the space below, then check out the film's Chloe-centric poster.

It's not entirely clear yet how many The Secret Life of Pets 2 character trailers (like the Max and Chloe teasers) are going to be released in total. Similarly, it's possible that certain Secret Life of Pets characters will only be making small appearances in other characters' trailers, as opposed to getting teasers of their own. For example, the pup Gidget (Slate) shows up in the final portion of the Chloe trailer, but may not receive a trailer of her own down the line. Then again, Chloe also showed up in the Max trailer (along with a brand-new character voiced by Tiffany Haddish), so it's equally possible that Gidget will follow suit and star in a trailer of her own sometime in the near future.

Either way, Illumination is smart to recognize that the animals and their various shenanigans are the main selling point for The Secret Life of Pets franchise, above all else. Much of the first movie's appeal can be chalked up to the fun it had with not only imagining what everyone's beloved pets are thinking, but also in capturing our furry companions' idiosyncratic behavior and not so appreciated bad habits (like coughing up hairballs, in Chloe's case). So long as the trailers for The Secret Life of Pets 2 continue to highlight that aspect of the film, audiences should be all the more excited to return to this particular universe when the sequel hits theaters next summer.
