Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for Secret Invasion, featuring new reveals and key details for the upcoming show coming to Disney+. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, who reprises his role as Col. Nick Fury, the former head of SHIELD returns to Earth to face a growing threat from a rogue cell of shape-shifting alien Skrulls. Despite having allied with the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, it looks as though tensions have reached their breaking point in the years that have followed, forcing Fury to give everything he has to set things right (while not knowing who he can trust).

In the new trailer for Secret Invasion, new insights are given into the show's allies and villains, though it's unclear who is which. Likewise, the trailer also confirms several details regarding the show's plot while teasing the very high stakes when it comes to Fury and his MCU tenure. Here are 9 of the biggest reveals from Marvel's new Secret Invasion trailer.

9 When Secret Invasion Takes Place In The MCU Timeline Confirmed By The Trailer

Nick Fury Returns in Secret Invasion

The new Secret Invasion trailer begins with Ben Mendelsohn's Talos revealing how bad things have gotten since Fury's been gone. The line plays off the reveal in Spider-Man: Far From Home that Fury has been in space while Talos uses his shape-shifting abilities as a Skrull to keep up appearances on Fury's behalf. However, the real Fury is now back in response to this growing threat. While there was talk of the series potentially taking place partly during the Blip, this seems to confirm that the majority of Secret Invasion will be taking place post-Avengers: Endgame.

8 Olivia Colman's Sonya Falsworth Has A Captain America Connection

Olivia Colman's Sonya Falsworth in Secret Invasion

Fury also has key interactions with newcomer Sonya Falsworth (played by Olivia Colman). While prior reveals have confirmed that she works for British Intelligence and is an old friend of Fury's, there seems to be more than meets the eye when it comes to Sonya. She's related to James Montgomery Falsworth, a member of Captain America's Howling Commandos during WWII. Currently, it's unknown where her true loyalties lie, though she seems to hold Fury responsible for inadvertently causing the new Skrull threat that's emerged.

7 Who Emilia Clarke's Secret Invasion Character Is

Emilia Clarke's G'iah in Secret Invasion

It's recently been confirmed that Emilia Clarke will be playing the Skrull G'iah, the grown-up daughter of Talos, who was first seen in Captain Marvel. Featured in several shots of the new Secret Invasion trailer, it seems as though G'iah will be opposed to her father and yet not fully a rogue Skrull either, seeing as how a scene features her warning Fury of the enemy Skrulls' plans for him. Regardless, it's already evident that G'iah's story will be a particularly compelling arc in the new MCU show.

6 What Gravik & The Rogue Skrulls Want In Secret Invasion

Gravik and Skrull Plot in Secret Invasion

The new Secret Invasion trailer reveals several new insights regarding the villain named Gravik. Played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, it looks as though Gravik will be leading this new cell of rogue Skrulls who've grown tired in the years since Captain Marvel, choosing to revolt against Talos, who's reportedly failed to deliver on promises made regarding their alliance with Fury. Likewise, the trailer also reveals a large-scale experiment underway with several bodies hidden away along with some sort of device Fury is seemingly trying to stop. There are also shots of Russia and a nuclear power plant, suggesting that the rogue Skrulls are holed up in Chernobyl's exclusion zone.

5 Secret Invasion Hints There's Still No Avengers

Avengers Reference in Secret Invasion

At one point in the Secret Invasion trailer, Fury is asked where the Avengers are, to which the former SHIELD director says that this new conflict is one he has to fight alone. However, this may also be hinting that a formal roster of new Avengers has yet to assemble in the wake of Avengers: Endgame. That being said, it looks as though Fury will still have Maria Hill, Everett Ross, James Rhodes, and Talos as allies he can hopefully trust (so long as they really are who they look and say they are).

4 Nick Fury's Headstone Is Now Different To The Winter Soldier

Nick Fury Headstone in Secret Invasion

Following the events of 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the end of SHIELD due to its corruption by Hydra, Fury continued faking his death to go off the grid, leaving Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Natasha Romanov at his headstone, which bore his name and the beginning of Ezekiel 25:17: “The path of the righteous man...", a reference to Jackson's famous quote from Pulp Fiction. However, Secret Invasion features a new headstone and Bible verse which is John 15:13: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." As such, this looks to be Fury's new headstone following the Snap.

Department of Damage Control in Secret Invasion

Revealed immediately after G'iah warns Fury about what the rogue Skrulls have planned for him, there's a shot of a briefcase being opened. The outside of the case features the logo of Marvel's Department of Damage Control while also identifying the contents as a sample from a specimen labelled "Cull." This confirms the DODC's involvement in Secret Invasion as the leading government agency tasked with handling the extraordinary and extraterrestrial in the wake of SHIELD while also hinting that they've potentially been infiltrated by the Skrulls.

2 The Secret Invasion Trailer Teases The MCU's Super-Skrull

Gravik Super-Skrull Tease in Secret Invasion

The end of the new Secret Invasion trailer also sees Gravik stretching out his arm to attack an off-screen enemy. This does tease that he could very well be the MCU's version of Super-Skrull, who in the original comics had the abilities of the entire Fantastic Four. In this case, it's certainly possible that Gravik and his fellow Skulls are seeking to amplify their shape-shifting abilities and give themselves greater power to rival any heroes who might stand in their way once their infiltration of humanity becomes more widespread. This would explain the purpose behind all the bodies and the device in Russia.

1 "One Last Fight" - Is This Nick Fury's Final MCU Appearance?

Nick Fury in Secret Invasion Trailer

As seen in the final shot of the Secret Invasion trailer, Fury walks out of a mausoleum which is secretly a safe house filled with gear for the former SHIELD director. Additionally, Fury seems to indicate that this current conflict may be his last, suggesting that this could very well be one of the superspy's final missions in the MCU before he retires and/or meets his demise (for real this time). If that's indeed the case, Fury may go out saving the world one final time.
