Emilia Clarke's Secret Invasion character has officially been confirmed, making her a new Marvel Cinematic Universe villain. Upon the announcement that Emilia Clarke was joining the MCU for Secret Invasion, speculation turned to which major Marvel character the former Game of Thrones star could play. Most of the speculation turned toward Abigail Brand, a powerful mutant spy who could help Marvel Studios replace Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. This appeared to be the case when official Marvel social media materials referred to Emilia Clarke's character in Secret Invasion as Abigail Brand.

Thanks to a new profile for the show in Vanity Fair, it has now been confirmed that Emilia Clarke's Secret Invasion character is G'iah. She is the daughter of Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) previously featured in Captain Marvel who is now all grown up. In addition to sharing new looks at the character, Vanity Fair's article confirmed that G'iah has sided with the Skrull radicals in the show and against her father and Nick Fury. Emilia Clarke teased a bit about G'iah and Talos' relationship in Secret Invasion:

It's hardened her for sure. There's a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl. She's a refugee kid who's had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn't know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.

What Emilia Clarke's MCU Character Reveal Means For Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion Giah and Talos Cropped

The reveal that Emilia Clarke's MCU character is Talos' daughter completely changes what audiences can expect from Secret Invasion. As a member of the Skrull resistance, G'iah will be on the opposite side of the Skrull war than her father. It sets up a complicated family dynamic between G'iah and Talos that Secret Invasion can explore, showing how much their relationship has changed since Captain Marvel. Based on Clarke's comments, it appears that Talos working with Nick Fury is a main factor in what drives them apart.

Knowing that Emilia Clarke is playing Talos' daughter in Secret Invasion also shows how the series will make some consequences for the failure of Talos, Fury, and Carol Danvers. The trio had an understanding after Captain Marvel that they would help the Skrulls find a new home planet. However, it seems that Talos and Fury got preoccupied with their own clandestine operations, while Carol patrolled the universe. Secret Invasion can show how their failure to deliver on the promise of finding a new Skrull home brings them to Earth and can split Talos' faction.

While this does mean that Emilia Clarke is not playing Abigail Brand in the MCU, G'iah's role in Secret Invasion gives Talos' story even more weight. He will not only be fighting the Skrulls that have split off from his group, but he will also go up against his own daughter in the process. That could mean Secret Invasion explores his attempts to bring his daughter back to the "good side" of the fight or G'iah's attempts to lure her father to the more radical Skrull faction.
