Marvel's upcoming Disney+ streaming series Secret Invasion has recreated Moscow's Red Square on set in Atlanta. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the few franchise juggernauts to still maintain its pre-pandemic success in the COVID-19 era, managing to continue breaking records with their theatrical films combined with their streaming series spinoffs. In 2021, Marvel released the live-action series WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierLoki, and Hawkeye, and their upcoming slate is even more robust. Although Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight, which is due in March, is the next project that will be streaming, Secret Invasion is due quite soon, possibly before the end of 2022.

Secret Invasion, which is based on the comic book run of the same name, was created by Kyle Bradstreet. It will follow an Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style infiltration of the human race by the shape-shifting Skrulls. The series will feature returning Marvel performers including Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, a friendly Skrull who was first introduced in 2019's Captain Marvel.

On Instagram, the Atlanta Filming account just posted new photos from behind-the-scenes of Secret Invasion, revealing one of the show's major setpieces. It seems like the show has recreated Red Square, which is located within the Kremlin's eastern walls in Moscow. This detailed recreation means that they will likely be staging a huge action scene that involves plenty of mayhem and destruction, akin to Hawkeye's recreation of 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the series finale. Secret Invasion is a six-episode series that is being directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim. The cast of Secret Invasion also includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo. Filming began in London in September 2021, and while filming is expected in other European locations, it's clear that they've also made use of the country to replicate areas the crew wouldn't be able to access otherwise.

While plot details from Secret Invasion are tightly under wraps, it's clearly gearing up to be a globetrotting adventure, even if it's blending real locations with sets. While the series storyline will be more small-scale than the original comics, that run was so expansive that it still leaves plenty of room for large-scale adventure. While it's unknown whether this Moscow set will be used in multiple episodes or just one major scene, it certainly proves that the show has its sights set on more than just England.
