Secret Invasion star Emilia Clarke reveals she was shocked at how easy it was to work with Marvel. In addition to portraying Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, a role that earned her multiple Emmy Award nominations, Clarke has appeared in projects like Terminator Genisys and Solo: A Star Wars Story. She was confirmed to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2021, joining the cast of Secret Invasion, an upcoming miniseries based on the popular comic book story of the same name. With the show set to premiere on Disney+ early this year, it will be exciting to see Clarke's MCU introduction and learn more about her character.

Clarke previously discussed her decision to join Secret Invasion, sharing her admiration for Marvel and praising those involved. In speaking with Collider at the recent Sundance Film Festival, she explained that the way Marvel creates content is "mind-boggling."

Clarke added that working with the studio was "brilliant" and revealed she was surprised at how relaxed everyone was. Read Clarke's comments regarding her experience with Marvel below:

It’s mind-boggling. I’ve got to tell you, the way that those shows and films are created is mind boggling. It’s like everyone at Marvel knows how to unlock the Rubik’s cube, and you couldn’t even possibly — I can’t do a Rubik’s Cube to save my damn life. I hope a lot of people can’t also. It’s like they have some secret thing, and it just works. It just works! I’ve tried to understand it, and I’ve tried to be like, ‘Okay, logically how is this, how do you guys, what’s the…?’ They’re drinking some water over there. I don’t know what it is. It’s fabulous. […] They nail it. They just absolutely nail it. I’m not the only actor to say that working with them is just kind of brilliant. It really is. We had a lot of laughs. They’re just so chill, and I think I’m not that chill, and I think if I were them, I would be so unchill all the time.

Everything We Know About Emilia Clarke's Role In Secret Invasion

Emilia Clarke with a gun in Secret Invasion.

As is the case with most MCU projects, specific details surrounding the plot of Secret Invasion have been limited, but it revolves around the Skrulls' infiltration of Earth, and it is expected that Clarke will be playing Abigail Brand. The character, a mutant in charge of S.W.O.R.D. in the comics, was involved in defeating a number of Skrulls. Some have speculated that Brand might be a Skrull herself since the show will likely feature multiple surprising reveals. Early theories had Clarke portraying Talos' daughter, but due to her character's background, she could also be a key ally to Nick Fury.

It will be interesting to see how Marvel chooses to depict Abigail Brand in Secret Invasion, given that the MCU has already established the idea of mutants. While the character is known for her green hair in the comics, Clarke's appearance is different in the series' first trailer, so some parts of her story may be changed. Because of her position at S.W.O.R.D. and the knowledge that her father is an alien, Abigail Brand's introduction could lead to more appearances in the MCU down the line.

In Secret Invasion, Clarke is part of a talented cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle, and Olivia Colman. Those names and its concept make it one of Marvel's more anticipated Disney+ series, as does the idea that it will set up a future Armor Wars film. With all of the content produced by Marvel, it is interesting to hear about what it is like working with the studio first hand from one of its actors. Those looking forward to learning more about the MCU's Abigail Brand and the battle with the Skrulls can be sure to check out Secret Invasion when it debuts.
