Warning! Spoilers ahead for X-Men #10

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' X-Men, it's confirmed that the second Wolverine Laura Kinney has nobler intentions than the original. While Logan is willing to do whatever it takes and get as bloody as necessary to keep his family and loved ones safe, Laura's primary goals with her own claws are more idealistic and heroic. This is proven thanks to Cyclops recalling Laura's pitch to join the X-Men during last year's Hellfire Gala.

During the aforementioned Hellfire Gala, the current roster of X-Men were all elected by the citizens of Krakoa, mutantkind's independent island nation. A team for the people, every hero looking to join psychically sent out their proposal for why they should be on the X-Men with the other connected minds offering their support to who they thought most deserved to be on the team (an election via telepathy thanks to Jean Grey). As such, certain issues of X-Men have since revealed what it was each member of the team said to get them elected. For example, Cyclops was elected due to his pitch projecting his confidence and experience: "I am the X-Men." In contrast, Jean ended up changing Polaris' message from "Just not me" to "Just pick me," expressing her confidence in the powerful mutant.

Now, the new X-Men #10 from Gerry Duggan and Javier Pina sees Laura's Wolverine determined to infiltrate mankind's new base on Mars' moon of Phobos, recently constructed by the new foe Feilong who's allied himself with the anti-mutant organization known as Orchis. Harboring the corpse of Nightcrawler, several adamantium skeletons from Logan's Wolverine, and a living mutant held hostage, no one is stopping Laura from saving Lady Deathstrike (revealed to be the hostage). Upon their safe return, Cyclops recalls Laura's pitch to join the X-Men, proving her more heroic status as a Wolverine.

It's a well-known fact that the original Wolverine is "the best at what he does," with what he does being all sorts of violence. Logan sees his powers and claws as tools he can use to protect his own and Krakoa's interests. While that's often displayed as heroism, especially when it comes to protecting his friends and loved ones, Logan rarely expresses restraint and rarely has qualms about how dark he has to get to succeed. In contrast, Laura said at the Gala that she only wants to use her claws to help people, indicating more of a pacifist mindset where she'll only pop her claws unless absolutely necessary. Case in point, Laura defends herself fighting Lady Deathstrike before she's eventually able to deescalate the situation and save them both.

While Logan's Wolverine toes the line between hero and anti-hero, Laura is very much on the hero side. To Logan's credit, he's likely made an impression on Laura over the years they've known each other, encouraging her to be better and avoid the darkness he's experienced in his own life. At any rate, this issue certainly proves why Laura's Wolverine deserves to be a member of Marvel's current roster of X-Men.
