Sebastian Stan would love for the Winter Soldier to team-up with the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in an Avengers spinoff movie. Stan made his debut as Sgt. Bucky Barnes in Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. However, it wasn't until Anthony and Joe Russo burst onto the scene with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 that Barnes transformed into the eponymous Winter Soldier, arguably giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe one of its best villain portrayals so far (even though he wasn't exactly a villain).

Anthony Mackie, on the other hand, made his debut as Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, in The Winter Soldier just a few years ago. And he's already reprised his role as the superhero multiple times, appearing briefly in Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as Ant-Man in 2015. Then, in 2016, Mackie fully came back as the Falcon for the Russos' Captain America: Civil War, in which he and Captain America (Chris Evans) attempted to protect Bucky from wrongful imprisonment. It was in that third Captain America movie that Sam and Bucky developed an interesting... friendship, of sorts, which audiences would love to see more of (particularly in a spinoff movie) - and that was only heightened after seeing Stan and Mackie interact well together in interviews.

Speaking with ET during the Avengers: Infinity War set visit last year, Sebastian Stan said that he absolutely would do a spinoff movie with Anthony Mackie's Falcon: "We absolutely can. Absolutely. I mean, the right people to make that happen are certainly within feet from us right now." Shortly before discussing a potential spinoff, Stan described the Bucky/Sam relationship as a buddy comedy film, which could hint at what a possible spinoff would look like: "To me, it's like Martin Brest film classic, Midnight Run, you know. It's really just sort of in my head, like, 48 hours or a buddy comedy from the '80s or the '90s. That's how I see it."

Bucky joining the fight in Avengers: Infinity War

A buddy comedy movie starring the Winter Soldier and the Falcon is something that would surely intrigue both Captain America and MCU fans, but it's worth noting that Stan is no longer considered the Winter Soldier on the big screen. Rather, Bucky will be the White Wolf in Infinity War. For those that don't know, Hunter, aka the White Wolf, is a (white) character who grew up in Wakanda after his family's plane crashlanded in the isolated nation. He was then adopted and raised by T'Chaka (after Hunter's parents died) and eventually became the leader of the country's secret police, the Hatut Zeraze. Perhaps that's a role Marvel is looking to take Bucky in the future, post-Captain America.

Then again, it's also possible that Marvel Studios may want to pass down the Captain America mantle to Bucky once Steve Rogers either dies or retires. In that case, a spinoff movie starring Bucky and Sam could technically just be Captain America 4. If not, then seeing Bucky as the White Wolf, leading T'Challa's secret police alongside Sam as the Falcon would surely make for an interesting story. But for now, fans can look forward to seeing the duo appear in the Russos' Avengers: Infinity War this summer.
