Sebastian Stan just revealed how he wants Bucky to die in the Marvel Universe long after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is over. The Winter Soldier has gone through a long and arduous journey stemming all the way back to the first Captain America movie in 2011. Since then, Bucky has died and come back as a homicidal Hydra operative and spent years running as a fugitive of the law. Now in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Bucky stands as a recently pardoned retired ex-murderer who is finally trying to have a normal life for the first time since the 1930s. Bucky has seen it all and is now one of the oldest remaining characters in the MCU.

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Bucky was practically a serial killer being controlled by a rogue government organization intended to cause havoc on the masses. He even killed Tony Stark's parents. Not even the Wakandan Dora Milaje trusted him. However, now that he's retired, Bucky is a changed man who feels guilt and remorse for all of the people that he's been forced to kill over the years, which greatly weighs on his mind. Having been through so much, Bucky is now a shell of his former pre-Hydra self and even requires government-mandated therapy sessions.

After the hellish journey he's been through, Stan thinks it's time for his character to finally get a nice ending. In an interview with Uproxx, he was asked to update his answer on how he thinks Bucky should die. In an old 2014 interview, Stan had previously said that "The Winter Soldier would rip his arm off and beat himself to death with it". Now with recent developments to his character, Stan has a radically different idea on how the Winter Soldier should die, stating the following:

Oh man, hopefully at this point, it would be in a nice warm bed as a 200-year-old man with a family. That’s his way now, I think he’s earned that.

Bucky Barnes

This huge shift in how Stan views his character is indicative of Bucky's major growth over the course of the MCU. Stan must feel that his character's death should reflect that. A nice peaceful death surrounded by his family is all Bucky could really hope for at this point, which shows just how drastically his character has changed. Bucky currently has no family to speak of, so perhaps Stan envisions his character settling down one day and even having kids.

After The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ends, there are no confirmed future plans for Bucky in the MCU, however, there are rumors of a second season coming to Disney+. If Bucky continues on the path of redemption that he is on then perhaps The Winter Solider will officially become no more as Bucky leaves behind his murderous past. How that will affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe at large is yet to be explored.
