Season 5 will be the final season for Search Party, which premiered on TBS in 2016. Ahead of season 3, the series was re-homed to HBO Max. That first season followed Dory (Alia Shawkat), who struggled to get through her daily life without thinking about an alum who went missing. She recruits her friends Drew (John Reynolds), Portia (Meredith Hagner) and Elliott (John Early) to help her follow leads and attempt to rescue the missing woman. However, things turn south and lead to murder, trouble with the law, and kidnapping.

Now, Deadline confirms that Search Party will end after season 5. After recovering from her near-death experience during the season 4 finale, Dory finds herself at one end of a lucrative business deal from fictional tech billionaire Tunnel Quinn played by Jeff Goldblum. Dory seemingly takes the high road in this deal and enlists her friends Drew, Portia and Elliott to help her with her dangerous pursuit. Search Party's final season is set to hit HBO Max on January 7, 2022.

Some viewers thought season 4 might have been the last season, since the finale seemed like an ending point for the series Season 4 turned the tables on Dory as she was the one who was kidnapped while her friends did the searching to find her. The season had a full-circle nature, and Dory's character arc felt complete after she confronted death, had an existential crisis, and came out on top. Now, all of that will be put to the test in Search Party season 5 and a new finite ending will define the series.
