Sean Penn’s unkempt appearance on “Morning Joe” went viral for perfectly capturing the mood of pandemic life in 2020. Penn is well known for his extensive filmography and his five Oscar nominations, but his activism is also well-documented. In his virtual “Morning Joe” interview on MSNBC, Penn discussed his non-profit community relief organization known as CORE, which he co-founded with Ann Lee. CORE - formally called the J/P Haitian Relief Organization - was initially founded in 2010 to provide aid to those affected by Haiti's devastating earthquake.

The organization changed its name in 2019, and it now aims to make free COVID-19 testing widely available. CORE went from administering around 6500 tests at four Los Angeles sites in two weeks to provide more than 1.3 million tests at 32 locations over five months. Among the 32 locations are Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Washington D.C. Penn highlighted the great work that CORE is doing throughout his "Morning Joe" interview.

But according to ET Canada, most people on social media are talking about Penn's disheveled interview look, which perfectly embodies the work-from-home lifestyle. His hair is unbrushed and unstyled in photos from the now-viral interview, sticking out in various directions. His white shirt is also wrinkled, giving the impression that he just rolled out of bed.

Check out Penn's disheveled appearance and one Twitter user's reaction below:

Penn is undoubtedly not the only person who has traded a professional aesthetic for pajamas and bedhead in 2020. As the pandemic rages on and virtual meetings become more and more commonplace, most people are celebrating the rare occasion in which they change out of sweatpants. The pandemic is also giving people a more intimate look at the lives of celebrities. It’s refreshing to see celebrities behaving like real people, especially an Oscar-winner like Sean Penn

Penn isn’t being criticized for forgoing a button-down shirt and loads of hair gel, nor should he be. The unkempt look shows that Penn is putting all his energy where it matters: CORE’s COVID-19 relief efforts. Hopefully, more celebrities will continue to follow in his footsteps by showing that they are just humans trying to navigate isolation like everyone else and join the fight against COVID-19. Hollywood celebrities are sometimes guilty of preaching about important issues as a part of a facade without actually trying to make a difference. But Sean Penn is walking the walk, and he's doing it with crazy hair, which makes it all the more awesome.
