The newest update to Sea of Thieves is bringing the Chest of Rage, and if players aren't careful, their entire ship will go up in smoke. The new update details were announced as part of Rare's new Sea of Thieves News series. Rare has continued to update the title as it has evolved. This new update will go live sometime next week, but a date has not been announced.

A similar chest was added to the game before that was called the Chest of Sorrow. This chest will periodically begin to sob and fill up any ship that it occupies with water. Over time this can sink a player's ship. In order to stop this from happening, players must either use buckets to scoop out the water, hold the chest off of the side of the ship, or tow it in a rowboat.

PC Gamer reports that the Chest of Rage will be a brand new addition to the game with next week's update. As soon as players bring the chest on their ship, it will begin to heat up slowly and will eventually set the ship on fire. The chest cools down if you douse it with water, but if the chest is shot, it will heat up more quickly. Sadly players don't have the option of cheating the system by partially flooding their ship because the chest will boil any water it touches.

This update is bringing several other important features to Sea of Thieves. Sword combat will be reworked to ensure that it is more effective, and Mermaids are being tweaked so that they appear more frequently. The lightning effects in the game will also appear less frequently, which is something that players who are tired of their ships being struck will be happy about. Players will also be given the option of changing their appearance by purchasing the "Pirate Appearance Coin" for 149 ancient coins. Players will also have access to special charity sails after the success of Sea of Thieves raising $76,000 for charity.

While Sea of Thieves had a very rocky launch, over the last year, the game has been updated so much that it is beginning to resemble the title that Rare originally promised. The Chest of Rage is a fun addition that will force players to think more strategically and even use it as a way to sink rival ships. The other quality of life updates will ensure that players will enjoy playing the game much more than they already do. Players will be very excited to check out this new Sea of Thieves update, but hopefully, they don't catch themselves on fire.
