The fourth season of Sea of Thieves begins today, September 23, and introduces new secrets and treasures as players get to fully explore the Sunken Kingdom. The pirate adventure from Rare has had a successful year, hitting a new player milestone after the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean Sea of Thieves expansion, and the release of season four expands the game even further.

Sea of Thieves' third season added five new Tall Tales, story-focused adventure quests to be completed solo or with friends, featuring Pirates of the Caribbean characters and themed stories. The second of the Tall Tales, the Sunken Pearl, sent players on a mission to the Sunken Kingdom, teasing its full unveiling ahead of the release of season four. In the Sunken Kingdom, players were tasked with finding Captain Jack Sparrow's Infamous Compass, completing puzzles and using their new underwater breathing tool. The Sunken Kingdom didn't have much else to offer in season three, but the launch of new Sea of Thieves content in season four opens up the full area with new treasures to discover.

Rare has officially revealed what players can expect from Sea of Thieves season four via Xbox Wire. Players will find six Siren Shrines in the Sunken Kingdom, each filled with puzzles and a "cache of deep sea treasure available for anyone who manages to breach its heart." Season four will also challenge pirates to plunder the Siren Treasuries, battling both Sirens and Ocean Crawlers to claim the game's new Coral treasures. A new Golden Nile Ship Collection has arrived at the Pirate Emporium, while the new Plunder Pass adds a spooky Jack O'Looter costume. Limited-time events have also been announced, beginning with the annual Festival of the Damned, with this year's themed event titled "Fury of the Damned." Players will also find Trials and Deeds have been expanded. Rare explains:

"To help players climb Season Four’s 100 levels of progression and unlock the associated rewards, our Trials and Deeds have evolved! A wider range of regularly rotating Deeds now expands the ways in which players can boost their Renown. Daily Deeds offer bite-sized challenges, while weekly, monthly and Seasonal Trials provide longer-term goals with more sizeable Renown rewards."

One of the main focuses of Sea of Thieves season four is the six new Siren Shrines. The shrines are each unique, with Rare previously warning players of the threats they'll face when trying to conquer them all. Those brave enough to take on the challenge will be rewarded with treasure aplenty, making the new Siren Shrines a must-experience feature of the game's fourth season of content.

Seas of Thieves' regular updates and expansions continue to add new content for players to enjoy, whether it be large updates like season four, or smaller additions such as new loot or skins. The next big crossover following the Pirates of the Caribbean release hasn't yet been announced, but some fans believe it could be a Sea of Thieves and Monkey Island collaboration. Whatever comes next, it's never been a better time to be a Sea of Thieves fan.
