There are many difficult enemies in the world of Sea of Thieves, but none are more terrifying as the Kraken. This creature can attack players when they least expect it, and is far larger than any ship that players will ever have access to. Players who aren't prepared for this fight at all times will die and have their ships completely obliterated.

Players who want to actually hunt the Kraken down may seem crazy, but it is a rewarding experience for anyone who can survive the long fight. They should be ready to grab a few friends and hunker down for a long and grueling fight. This guide will show players how to properly prepare for fighting the Kraken, but also how to get away quickly if they get in over their head.

Sea of Thieves: How to Find the Kraken

Many players may want to know how they track the Kraken down, and to put it simply: you don't. The Kraken doesn't have any specific spawn points, is impossible to track down, and will only appear when it wants to. Players don't have any control over how or when the creature will appear, but they can keep an eye out for times when it might show up.

If a cloud event is currently active in the game world, then the Kraken is unable to spawn. The upside to this is that smart players can avoid being attacked by the Kraken by only going out in the water during one of these events. Those who want to fight the Kraken should explore the deep waters while no events are active and hope they are the unlucky ship that is picked to be attacked. If the water around the player's boat turns a dark black color, then that means the Kraken is readying its attack.

Sea of Thieves: Preparing for the Kraken

Sea Of Thieves

Being prepared for this fight is more important than the actual fight itself. The first thing to know is that the difficulty of the fight will scale to how many people are in your crew, and how big the player's ship is. If a person is playing by themselves while piloting a sloop, this fight is actually fairly easy to complete as long as the player is fairly decent at ship combat. No matter what though, players will want to make sure they have a lot of wooden planks on them so that they can repair any damage that the Kraken does to their ship. Additionally, as many cannonballs and food should be brought along as possible to ensure that players can survive this fight.

Sea of Thieves: Fighting the Kraken

When the fight finally begins players will see the Kraken's tentacles extend out of the water. Immediately players will want to split up their duties in order to survive the fight. At least one player will need to stay on deck and man the cannons, while someone else heads below deck and patches holes or bails out water. If players have a third crew person, that person should be in charge of steering the ship and keeping an eye out for other incoming ships.

The person below deck has their work cut out for them when it comes to keeping the ship afloat. The Kraken will leave giant holes in the ship that will allow massive amounts of water to come rushing in. If this is ignored then the ship will sink very quickly. Players should prioritize patching the holes first and then bail the water out. If things get too out of hand, then any players above deck should come down and help repair the ship.

Players who are above deck will be in charge of attacking. The Kraken's tentacles will be sticking out of the water all around the ship, so players should aim the cannons at them to cause damage. To do extra damage they should make sure to shoot the ends of the tentacles specifically. The Kraken has three different attacks that it will do periodically and players will need to do different things in each event.

Suction Tentacle- If players hear what sounds like rushing wind, all crew members should run below deck as quickly as possible. This means that the Kraken is preparing to suck up one of the people above deck with one of its tentacles. This will pull a crew member off the ship and grab them with the tentacle. If caught the player should immediately start slashing at the Kraken with their sword, and other members should start shooting that specific tentacle to release their friend. That player will eventually be dropped in the water where they must swim back to the ship.

Tentacle Slam- The Kraken will pull one of its tentacles underwater and then raise it back up in the air. This means it is about to slam the side of the ship, which can really mess things up for players. The ship itself will be spun sideways, which means that the ship will need to be reoriented to keep firing the cannons. This attack will also put several holes in the ship, so players will need to quickly patch up any holes to stop from sinking.

Tentacle Grab- Eventually the Kraken will decide to wrap one of its tentacles around the hull of the ship, which can potentially prevent players from traveling between the deck and below deck. If the team doesn't have someone below deck when this happens, then the ship could potentially sink. In order to remove the tentacle, players will need to track down the tip of it where they can see the "mouth". Attack this part of the tentacle and the Kraken will eventually release the ship from its grasp.

In between these attacks, the players operating the cannons or their guns should continue doing as much damage as they possibly can to each tentacle. After enough damage to a tentacle, it will eventually descend below the waters. Depending on how big of a ship players are on will determine how many tentacles they need to defeat to end the fight. A Sloop only requires 2-3 tentacles beaten, 5-6 on a Brigantine, and 7-8 on a Galleon. Once this is done the Kraken will abandon the fight and leave behind loot for the player to acquire.

Those who don't actually want to fight the Kraken should leave their sails open and anchor raised once the Kraken appears. This will allow the ship to keep floating even while the Kraken attacks. Most of the crew should go below deck and continually repair the ship while someone else mans the steering wheel. Eventually, the ship will float out of the Kraken's area and the players can make a hasty escape.

Sea of Thieves: Kraken Loot

For every tentacle defeated players will receive one or two pieces of loot. There is a large pool of loot that rewards are pulled from, so players can expect to receive all kinds of interesting things for defeating the Kraken. Additionally, players will receive one piece of Kraken Meat for every tentacle eliminated. These can be cooked and eaten for a health boost or traded to the Hunter's Call for some money and experience points. Players will be rewarded handsomely for bringing the terrifying Kraken down, so it is well worth the struggle.
