Season 2 of Sea of Thieves has officially launched and includes a new rare world event called the Fort of Fortune, which contains better loot than almost any other public event to date. In Sea of Thieves, players can join a pirate crew with their friends and fight enemies and other pirates in search of treasure and adventure. Since Sea of Thieves launched, like many co-ops and MMOs, it has included world events for players to participate in. These are often limited-time experiences that include challenging boss encounters and incredible loot and rewards. The Fort of Fortune is one of the most difficult challenges to date, but its payoff is well worth the risks and even dwarfs that of Fort of the Damned.

When a pirate crew finds the Fort of Fortune, they will need to face 18 waves of Skeleton enemies of various difficulties, from typical Grunts to named Captains and Lords. At the end of the encounter, they will face an Ashen Lord boss, who drops a key to the Fort of Fortune vault and all its goodies. In addition to facing the waves of enemies, crews may also need to contend with other pirate bands after the massive reward. Here's how to find and beat the Fort of Fortune in Sea of Thieves Season 2 and what pirates can earn for doing so.

How to Find the Fort of Fortune World Event in Sea of Thieves

Pirates fight waves of skeletons during the Fort of Fortune world event in Sea of Thieves Season 2

The Fort of Fortune in Sea of Thieves is a rare event that triggers randomly. When the event begins, it will be announced by a blaring horn that can be heard across the entire world. The closer a crew is to the event location, the louder the horn will sound.

The Fort of Fortune can appear anywhere a typical Skeleton Fort can within the world. Players can clock the location by looking for a massive skull in the sky over the Fort. Unlike Skeleton Fort world event markers, the Fort of Fortune skull marker will be red with fiery-looking scars and glowing eyes.

When approaching the Fort of Fortune, crews will want to be careful of Skeletons in guard towers around the small island. They will fire upon incoming ships. Pirates will also need to make sure they bring enough ammo and supplies to fight through the 18 waves of Skeletons and defeat or deter other pirate crews to reach the treasure within.

Ashen Lords in Sea of Thieves

Once players make it to the Fort of Fortune in Sea of Thieves Season 2, they will face 18 waves of Skeletons. Typically, these will be Bone Skeletons, Gold Skeletons, Plant Skeletons, and Shadow Skeletons. Every few waves, the pirate crew will face a more challenging wave that includes named Skeleton Captains in addition to the regular Skeletons.

Players will want to pick up loot from the Skeleton Captains, as they will often drop Gold and Skeleton's Orders. The Skeleton's Orders will direct pirates to ammo hidden around the Fort, which can include Firebomb Crates, Gunpowder Kegs, and Ashen Winds Skulls among other useful ammo. If possible, players should save some of these ammo caches for the final boss.

After 15 waves of Skeletons and Skeleton Captains, pirates will face the most difficult waves of the encounter, which include Skeleton Lords. On wave 16, they will face the Skeleton Lord the Mutinous Helmsman. During wave 17, they will face both the Duchess and the Two-Faced Scoundrel. All three of these Skeleton Lords will drop better loot, including more Skeleton's Orders. They also all have special attacks pirates will need to watch out for.

The final wave will include the final boss, an Ashen Lord. It has three special attacks: Fire Boulder, Knockback, and World's End. To reduce the impact of World's End, it is a good idea to store ammo someplace safe, as the flaming projectiles it produces can set off any unprotected barrels and kegs.

The special ammo caches found around the island can help against the Ashen Lord. In addition, for any of the waves, players can consider luring enemies to the shore and taking them out with cannons, as long as they have enough cannonballs to do so.

Upon defeat, the Ashen Lord drops the Fort of Fortune Vault Key. Its location will be visible to all players in the server, which means the victorious pirate crew will need to be quick about grabbing and using it, then escape the island quickly.
