The chances of actually getting a Scream TV show look good, according to the Scream VI producers. Scream VI has already been a massive success and is currently dominating the box office with its $43 million opening take. With interest in Scream as high as ever, expanding the scope of Scream seems to be an inevitability.

While the slasher franchise has enjoyed a show before, the series ended in 2019 and has so far shown no signs of renewal. While the Scream showrunners have revealed their plans for what seasons 3 and 4 could have looked like, they will never actually be realized. Still, Scream VI producer William Sherak revealed to Deadline that there is a possibility of another Scream show being developed. Check out his quote below:

"In success, I think what Kevin and Wes created in Ghostface, because anybody can wear the mask, it kind of gives you the ability to have unlimited stories, right? You’re not trying to figure out how to keep one specific character alive. It’s always somebody new, so you have the ability to keep going. I will tell you, if they let us, we would love to. I think that’s kind of the answer. The benefit that Paul and I [have] that a lot of people don’t have is…a genius partner who happens to be a writer... Not everybody has the luxury of the office next door being held by somebody who actually sits with a whiteboard and creates ideas out of nowhere.

"So, we have that going for us that a lot of companies don’t. We don’t have to go outside to find that, and we are fortunate that Jamie, with Guy Busick — who we’ve done a ton of stuff with, and will continue — picked up that mantle when Gary Barber let us run with Scream for Spyglass…So, we have the benefit [that] in success, which we will continue to knock on wood and hope it happens, we don’t have to go keep finding people to tell these stories. It’s an in-house thing we get to build with Spyglass that I think gives us a leg up. I think [that] allows you to have a singular vision of how we want to control the world, so when you talk about TV and all that other stuff, any of that’s possible because we don’t have to go outside and find it. It’s all sitting here, should the opportunities arise."

Could A New Scream TV Show Work?

Ghostface in a bodega

Unfortunately, Scream: The TV Show was never truly able to live up to the expectations of the movies. Often filled with teen drama that pales in comparison to the films, it also bogs itself down with a smaller budget and less interesting characters. Yet it is worth revisiting the series or making a new one, given that Scream VI is beating Creed III at the box office. That, alone, is proof that Scream's name still carries some serious weight.

Breaking Bad, House of the Dragon, and The Last of Us have proven that TV is more than capable of countering movies and providing blockbuster-quality content for the small screen. A well-made Scream show can do the same. With episodes devoted to different areas of the world that are dealing with the Ghostface menace, a Scream TV series can offer something new, while also clinging to the parts of the franchise that make it so beloved.

The movies themselves are proving that core characters are no longer as essential to the series as they may have initially seemed. Even the Ghostface killer's identity is no longer entirely important, since anyone can pick up the mask and terrorize the world. If given the same care and attention that the Scream movies have enjoyed, a Scream TV show certainly has the opportunity to blow the movies out of the water.
