The Life Foundation symbiotes have returned in Extreme Carnage, including Scream. This long-haired offspring of Venom has taken a different path from her siblings, trying to be a hero. However, her origins and journey still include some very villainous moments.

Scream was first introduced in 1993 in Venom: Lethal Protector #4 alongside her siblings. They came about after Eddie Brock's symbiote was separated from him. She has the same abilities as the other symbiotes, but can also use her hair as a weapon or tendril to grab things. Scream has since had three hosts, each with a very different history - the first being Donna Diego.

Donna's Debut

Donna Diego is a part of a special forces team for the Life Foundation. She voluntarily signs up for the symbiote bonding. However, the examinations she takes fail to catch that she is schizophrenic and has been hearing voices since long before she paired with the Scream symbiote. This mental condition is focused on predominantly within Venom: Separation Anxiety when she is revealed to be a murderer.

Donna Diego kills her fellow Life Foundation symbiote hosts using a sonic knife. Initially, she tries to frame Venom, before finally attacking him and revealing the truth. Unlike her siblings, she heard her symbiote's voice along with the other voices present in her mind from the beginning. She deems the symbiotes to be evil and aimed to kill them all. She is later killed by Eddie Brock in Venom #15 (2012). The Scream symbiote, however, can't be ended so easily.

Host Changes

The next host the Scream symbiote bonds to is Patricia Robertson, in Absolute Carnage: Scream from 2019. Patricia was previously a symbiote host to Mania - a symbiote clone of Venom. Absolute Carnage sees Carnage preparing for the arrival of Knull, god of the symbiotes who recently appeared in Marvel's King in Black event. Carnage is trying to kill every symbiote host, regardless of if they are still bonded or not. He has been chasing down Andi Benton, another former host of Mania. Despite Carnage's ability to control symbiotes, Scream is able to fight it so that she and Andi can team up with one another. By the end of the series, Patricia Robertson is dead at the hands of Carnage, and the Scream symbiote saves Andi from dying. However, this marks an important shift in Scream's history.

By fighting against Carnage's influence and trying to protect Andi, Patricia and Scream are set on a more heroic path. This continues after Andi bonds to the symbiote, given her relationship to Agent Venom - Flash Thompson - who was a coach at her school. Mania, Andi's former other, had a Hell-Mark, which transferred to Andi even after the two were separated. As a result, she still has the Hell-Mark during her bond with Scream. This allows her to summon hellfire and demons to fight under her control. Typically, with a mutual agreement during their bond, Scream can withstand Andi's hellfire. In Scream: Curse of Carnage (2019), Andi is seen fighting Scream before finally bonding with the symbiote, though they only attack villainous foes and people who attack them first.

Recent Activities

As of late, Andi has been fighting evil forces like Carnage and Knull, though she also fights several of Knull's underlings, including Demagoblin. One of her biggest recent fights was against Big Mother in Scream: Curse of Carnage, which leads up to the events of King in Black. This series reveals that Scream can change forms. She adapts underwater, is capable of producing wings to fly, and has even adapted into a spider-like appearance to save children. Fans can catch more of Scream in the current Marvel Comics event, Extreme Carnage, particularly in Extreme Carnage: Scream #1.
