Scream star David Arquette recently shared that he loves working with his ex-wife Courteney Cox. The Scream franchise has been a staple in the horror genre since its inception in 1996. The late legendary horror director Wes Craven masterminded the project, and went on to see a total of four Scream films make their impact on audiences everywhere before he passed away in 2015. The upcoming sequel, Scream (2022), is set for release in January and will be the first film of the franchise without Craven at the helm.

The highly-anticipated return of Ghostface in the all-new Scream will bring about the return of some major original cast members, and they are all slated to reunite in their infamous, all-too-familiar Woodsboro stomping grounds. Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, along with David Arquette as Dewey Riley, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Roger L. Jackson rounds out the crew and will be reprising his role as the voice of Ghostface. However, the identity of who is actually behind the mask is yet to be revealed. The cast has a long history with one another within the Scream franchise, which is especially true for Arquette and Cox, who first met each other on the film set. The pair got married in 1999 and divorced in 2013, and now co-parent their teenage daughter while maintaining a close friendship.

Recently, Arquette told Total Film magazine that he loves working with his ex-wife Cox. Arquette dove right into the conversation, sharing that there are some things in life that you "can't act." He went on to explain that although the pair are acting together on screen, their relationship has a real-life element of "beauty" to it. See Arquette's full comments below:

"I always love working with Courteney. There's an intangible quality of having a relationship with somebody, and then being able to act with them, that you kind of can't act. It's like the Everly Brothers singing harmonies – there's a real beauty to the relationship that you can't really fake."

The premise of Scream 2022 places audiences 25 years after the Ghostface killings in the original Scream and is set to give rise to the newest killer behind the mask. Havoc and terror will likely be unleashed on the infamous little town once more, as Sidney and the crew try to thwart Ghostface's most recent murderous rampage alongside a new generation of Woodsboro teens. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will take over the reins and direct the latest Scream rendition. However, unsurprisingly feeling the enormous pressure of filling Craven's shoes, the duo has outwardly stated their love and respect for the legendary director, and their plans to pay tribute to his legacy in the upcoming film.

In regards to Arquette and Cox, while the two did share a real-life romance off-screen, they have worked together on several projects besides those in the Scream franchise as well. For example, in 2001 the pair worked together on the Romantic Comedy The Shrink Is In, which saw Cox star opposite Arquette. Nevertheless, in the time since their separation, all indications point to the pair remaining close friends and finding some solace in their relationship as parents. Given how beautifully Arquette speaks of his ex-wife, it comes as no surprise that the two would be able to work together so well on screen. Their reunion as iconic Scream characters Dewey and Gale is one of the things audiences are most looking forward to when Scream 2022 hits theaters next year.
