A collection of Scream 6 set photos indicates the sequel will transplant its survivors to a famous U.S. city. 2022's Scream was a franchise-defining entry, bringing Wes Craven's creation back to the big screen after 11 years and introducing fans to a new generation of Woodsboro survivors. Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad received the proverbial torch from the fan-favorite trio of Sidney, Gale, and Dewey after surviving Ghostface and established a clever commentary on the state of legacy sequels in the horror genre.

Scream's success at the box office immediately opened the doors for Paramount and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to film a sequel. Since Scream 6's greenlighting, news about the project has swirled. Courtney Cox is confirmed to return with the four new survivors, who proclaimed their intentions to leave Woodsboro and the Ghostface killer behind them. In a shocking announcement, franchise star Neve Campbell will not be joining Sam and the others as they begin their lives anew elsewhere.

Thanks to local photographers who flocked to the Scream 6 set over the weekend, it's revealed that part of the movie will take place in New York City. britneyvinyl on Twitter shared the first exclusive images from the Montreal filming location, showcasing several prop vehicles with New York City branding and license plates. Meanwhile, eric_chag pins the scene in the McGill University area and supplies additional photos, offering different angles of those vehicles and views of a blocked-off street. Nearby signs say "Blackmore," the film's working title. Check out the photos below:

The Montreal area's bustling urban landscape is perfect for mimicking New York City, containing similar styles of architecture and a diverse population. The Big Apple is a setting far removed from the sleepy suburban town of Woodsboro but ideal for the increasingly dangerous Ghostface to exert his influence over. The presence of police cars, news vans, and firetrucks suggest that this particular scene or scenes set in New York will be intense and likely deadly. However, the lack of action in the set photos means that the scope of the surrounding carnage is unknown.

The realization that some part of Scream 6 will take place in New York City is astounding but still feels like a natural progression for the series. The millennial generation of survivors from Scream 5 could desire the apparent security that such a dynamic new environment offers. They could even find comfort in the shared experience of returning survivor Kirby Reed, whose love of film could have led her to NYC. A different setting is nothing new for the Scream franchise, as Scream 2 took place in Ohio, and other cities are also possible if the survivors go their separate ways. A central setting still makes the most sense, and New York City is the most exciting one for Ghostface to stalk yet.
