Scream 6 star Jenna Ortega teases an exciting callback to Scream 2's Ghostface chase scene in the upcoming slasher sequel. More than ten years after Scream 4, the beloved horror franchise was revived earlier this year again with the release of Scream. The much-anticipated legacy sequel welcomed back Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers, and David Arquette's Dewey Riley while also welcoming Melissa Barrera and Ortega as the franchise's new leads, Sam and Tara Carpenter. Scream's impressive box office success immediately brought confirmation of a sequel, Scream 6, which will continue the story of the Ghostface killer.

Speaking at the Critics Choice Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television recently, Ortega offered an exciting tease for Scream 6, revealing that the film will callback to one of the franchise's previous installments, Scream 2. Ortega expressed her excitement for Scream 6 before sharing that the film features a "lot of good chase sequences" reminiscent of a particularly heart-pounding scene in Scream 2, in which Ghostface chases Gale. Check out Ortega's quote below.

Scream 6 I’m so so excited about because there's a lot of good chase sequences. Kind of reminiscent of in Scream 2, there's a chase between Gale and Ghostface through the lab. I feel like we have a lot of stuff like that this time around.

Everything We Know About Scream 6

While Scream fans will be most familiar with the town of Woodsboro, the key location within the franchise, Scream 6 is set to take place in New York and will see the return of Scream alums Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding alongside Barrera and Ortega. Scream 6 will also welcome a host of new faces, including Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weaving, and Tony Revolori, while welcoming back Cox and Scream 4's Hayden Panettiere. Campbell will not return for Scream 6 after a dispute over pay saw the iconic final girl exit the Scream franchise after five previous appearances.

Very little is known regarding how the story of Scream 6 will unfold, though the film is, naturally, expected to follow the same meta approach that has established the Scream films as a firm fan-favorite within the horror genre. After it was revealed that Scream 6 would take place almost directly after the events of Scream, the characters will likely be grappling with the film's major deaths, including Arquette's Dewey. This confirmation that Scream 6 will feature several chase sequences is undoubtedly exciting. The Scream 2 scene that Ortega specifically cites is among the franchise's standout moments, and with Cox expected to have a prominent role, perhaps a déjà vu moment is on the cards for her character. With production on Scream 6 having wrapped up earlier this summer, many are hoping that the first official Scream 6 trailer isn't far off, as the film is set to hit theatres in early 2023.

For those eagerly anticipating Scream 6, Ortega's exciting reveal will surely come as welcomed news. With Scream having featured several callbacks to the franchise's previous movies, it's great to hear this trend will continue within Scream 6. However, with increased chase sequences comes higher stakes, which could mean that Scream 6 will bring more character deaths than its predecessor, with many particularly concerned that Scream 6 will take down another legacy character. With a short while to go until Scream 6 slashes its way back onto the big screen, it remains to be seen what other fun franchise callbacks this much-anticipated sequel will bring.
