The original returning cast of Scream has revealed that they would love to be involved with a sixth installment of the iconic horror franchise, as long as there is an "appetite" for it. More than 25 years on from the initial release of Scream, audiences are gearing up to revisit the town of Woodsboro, where a lingering terror is threatening the town's residents once again. Neve Campbell will return to play final girl Sidney Prescott. She teams up with news reporter Gale Weathers (played by Courteney Cox) and Sheriff Dewey Riley (played by David Arquette) to take down the infamous Ghostface killer.

The release of the beloved horror series' fifth entry comes more than ten years after the franchise's last installment, Scream 4, released in 2011 and saw Campbell, Cox, and Arquette fight for survival against the ruthless masked killer. The film welcomed a fresh new cast but ultimately missed the mark for the majority of fans, with it often placed at the bottom end of any rankings of the series. While this new Scream also boasts an exciting new cast that includes In The Heights' Melissa Barrera and The Boys' Jack Quaid, Campbell recently shared that the cast of this film feels the "most like the original cast from the first film." Numerous teasers for Scream have hinted at an equal focus on both the legacy characters and this new cast. However, the film's director Tyler Gillett recently expressed his desire to tell more of Woodsboro's stories, suggesting that these newer characters may even take the lead.

Now, with the highly anticipated release of Scream just around the corner and with the film's events remaining a mystery to most, many have been wondering what could be next for these legacy characters. Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, Scream's original stars were asked if they felt this was their final time going toe-to-toe with Ghostface or whether there could be more stories to tell. Campbell and Arquette then expressed their keen interest in returning for another Scream installment, with Campbell sharing that "if people love this one," they would "love to be a part of" any future stories. Check out Campbell's full quote below.

It would seem there's always more stories to be told in Woodsboro and there is a taste for it. So, I think, if people love this one, I would imagine there will be an appetite and we, of course, would all love to be a part of it.

Arquette also acknowledged the cult following surrounding Ghostface as an icon within pop culture, stating, "Ghostface is such an iconic character." The newly released final trailer for Scream hinted at some terrifying new tactics from the masked killer when he returns to strike fear in the hearts of Woodsboro's residents, including a flamethrower as a particularly interesting new weapon of choice. While the film's outcome will remain under wraps until Friday, the film's third act is likely to offer some idea of how the events of a sixth installment could play out if it were to go ahead.

With the Scream franchise set to have its long-awaited revival, and with such a keen interest shown from the film's cast, it was only a matter of time before questions of a further continuation of the series began to arise. Early reactions to Scream have been overwhelmingly positive, with many hailing how it honors the original films, as well as Wes Craven's legacy. These reviews are likely to reignite any previous discussions surrounding Scream 6, and it's certainly exciting to hear that the film's original stars would jump at the chance to return. Right now, the question on everyone's lips is who could be behind this new round of killings, and with some fans even questioning if it could finally be time for one of the legacy characters to don the iconic Ghostface mask - who knows what the future holds for the Scream franchise.
