Scream 6's final trailer sees Ghostface get up close and personal with Gale Weathers. The character, played by Courteney Cox, is the only original survivor of 1996's Scream who has so far been confirmed to return in the sequel, which comes to theaters on March 10. Other characters also returning are the previous film's survivors Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), as well as Scream 4 fan-favorite character Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), all of whom gather when a new Ghostface killer strikes in New York City.

Now that critics have been able to share their thoughts on the film ahead of this Friday's release of Scream 6, Paramount Pictures has unleashed one final trailer for the film that is full of quotes of their rapturous praise.

"Maybe he gets to win this time," laments Sam as the trailer shows shots both new and familiar of Ghostface's rampage through Manhattan. As the trailer reveals even more about Gale's first-ever phone call with the killer, it seems that Sam may be right as the hardnosed reporter finds herself on the ground while Ghostface menaces her with a knife from above.

Will Gale Weathers Survive Scream 6?

Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers Being Menaced with a Knife in Scream 6 Final Trailer-1

While the core Scream cast typically survive Ghostface more often than not, the modern Scream films have upped the ante. Consummate near-death survivor Dewey Riley (David Arquette) met his doom in 2022's Scream, showing that the filmmakers behind the new films aren't afraid of killing legacy characters. While Neve Campbell won't return as final girl Sidney Prescott due to a contract dispute, Cox's Gale could very well be in serious danger.

The new film's iteration of Ghostface also presents a formidable threat. The film's promotional material teased that this killer is "something new," meaning the modus operandi may be switched up in a way that won't be easy for her to predict. This Ghostface is also obsessed with previous Ghostfaces, so they may particularly want to kill one of the original survivors to honor that legacy.

A Scream 6 fan experience in Los Angeles has also hinted at a potential motive for Gale's death. In a recreation of the trailer's iconic bodega scene, a pile of books by Weathers could be seen, including one that she wrote about the events of Scream 2022, which she claimed she wasn't going to do so as not to inspire more killing. If the events of the film reveal that she has indeed written that book, it might be the last straw for this particularly menacing killer.
