Warning! Potential spoilers ahead for Scream 6

The weathered mask worn by the new Ghostface in Scream 6 has a major connection to the original Scream. The iconic masked killer is returning for a sixth time in the long-running film series that began with the 1996 original written by Kevin Williamson and directed by the late Wes Craven. A direct sequel to 2022's Scream, the upcoming film follows the survivors of the latest Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind for the Big Apple, only to be terrorized by a new masked killer.

At the Scream 6 Experience event in Santa Monica, it was revealed that the new Ghostface has a major connection to the original Scream. The weathered and cracked mask, which was revealed by the Scream 6 trailer, is the same one that Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) wore in the original 1996 film. The news comes courtesy of Collider that reports the mask was on display at the event on a mannequin labeled "Billy Loomis."

Scream 6's Connections To The Original Scream Are Strong

Sam holds the a cracked and bloody Ghostface mask in Scream 6

Ever since the Scream 6 trailer revealed Ghostface wearing the weathered and cracked mask, it was speculated that it originally belonged to one of the franchise's first killers, Billy Loomis or Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard). Now, the Scream 6 Experience event has potentially spoiled one of the movie's major surprises. What remains to be seen is if the mask's original owner is just an Easter Egg in Scream 6, or if it actually hints at the identity of the new Ghostface killer.

With the Scream 6 Experience event likely confirming that the new Ghostface's mask was previously worn by Billy Loomis, this is the latest hint that Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) could be the one actually behind the mask. Scream (2022) revealed that Sam is the illegitimate daughter of Billy Loomis, which would explain how she potentially had access to his mask. While this recent revelation will continue to spark theories for the time being, the identity of the new Ghostface killer will be revealed when Scream 6 releases in theaters on March 10.
