A new Scream 6 set photo reveals a first look at Courteney Cox’s return as Gale Weathers. Launched in 1996 with the release of first Scream movie, the horror franchise has followed the town of Woodsboro and the murder sprees that keep returning to it, which are always perpetrated by the latest Ghostface killer. Introduced in the first film, reporter Gale Weathers has become one of the series' most prominent characters, having appeared in all five installments released so far.

In the original Scream, Cox’s Gale is painted as a fame-seeking reporter, prowling the town of Woodsboro with her cameraman for stories of national interest. While she’s initially seen as an antagonist in the film, she later links up with protagonist Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) to investigate and put an end to the Ghostface murders. She also appears in Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4, and the latest installment, Scream (2022), throughout which she's struggled to balance her career aspirations with her romantic relationship with Dewey, a policeman and devoted Woodsboro local.

Now, just a few months after the release of the latest Scream franchise installment, Cox is once again reprising her role as the iconic journalist in Scream 6, with filming currently underway. Per People, Cox was spotted on the set of the sixth film this past Tuesday. She was photographed wearing a bright blue pantsuit paired with lime green heels and standing amongst crew members. Depending on the level of her involvement, Gale could be dealing with a lot in Scream 6. While her marriage with Dewey had ended in divorce by the start of Scream (2022), she still had a lot of love for the former Woodsboro Sheriff, who sadly didn't make it out of the movie alive. Gale also demonstrated her action chops while she and Sidney fought and killed the Ghostface killers, and with Campbell not returning for Scream 6, she could be relied on as the franchise's remaining major legacy character.

That said, the new film will also welcome the return of several new characters who survived the events of Scream (2022). The latest movie employed a noticeably different group dynamic geared toward a new generation of Scream fans, and the sequel could be less invested in the franchise's origins than this year's "rebootquel" was. But, with Hayden Panettiere's Kirby returning in Scream 6 after last being seen in Scream 4, the past clearly isn't going away entirely, and fans will be eager to learn just how prominent Gale's next appearance will be.
