A new behind-the-scenes image teases a New York City subway location in Scream 6 and announces that the film is officially wrapped. The movie is the latest entry in the cult horror film franchise originally created by Wes Craven in 1996. The fifth installment of the series, which was released in 2022 and simply titled Scream was marketed as somewhat of a relaunch of the franchise due to it being the first Scream film not to be directed by Craven, but it does directly follow the events that occur in Scream 4.

Both 2022's Scream and Scream 6 are written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not), and are directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directing team behind Ready or Not. Scream 6 will not take place in the franchise staple town of Woodsboro, California, but rather in New York City. Although several cast members from previous Scream films are set to return in Scream 6, Neve Campbell, who has played the iconic Sidney Prescott since the first movie, previously announced that she will not reprise her role in Scream 6.

Now, in a post on Instagram, a behind-the-scenes set photo shows the cast and crew of Scream 6 in an NYC subway set gathering to celebrate that filming has wrapped. Although the film is set in New York, filming took place in Montreal, Canada, and the announcement comes from production union AQTIS 514 IATSE, who helped work on the film. The text of the post is in French, and in English roughly translates to, "It’s in the box! The filming of the sixth installment of the Scream franchise has now come to an end. The Thunder team did an amazing job, and we’d like to thank producer Ron Lynch and #Montréal for choosing @blackmore.productions as their city to shoot.

Although Campbell will not be returning for Scream 6, the film is still bringing back several fan favorite characters from the franchise, including Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere). The return of Kirby was especially exciting news to followers of the series after she made a splash in her franchise debut in Scream 4 before seemingly dying by the movie's end. It's not yet clear how she'll be brought back from the thought-to-be dead. Now that production has wrapped, Scream 6 will have some big shoes to fill, as 2022's Scream received praise from both critics and fans.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett's first Scream film in 2022 distinguished itself with a markedly less tongue-in-cheek tone than some past Scream entries. However, it still managed to remain in the same vein as Craven's original creation, and Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original Scream, was attached as an executive producer to ensure that homage was properly paid to Craven's films. Williamson is acting again as an executive producer for Scream 6. Viewers will be able to see Scream 6 in theaters on March 31, 2023.
