A new Scream 2022 TV spot reveals a metallic Ghostface mask and the killer wielding a flamethrower to take down an undisclosed victim. The latest installment in the slasher franchise picks up sometime after the events of Scream 4 as the town of Woodsboro is once again rocked by a series of murders from someone donning the Ghostface mask. This time, the new killer has begun targeting a group of teens with ties to the town's dark secrets and deadly past.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Roger L. Jackson return to lead the cast of Scream alongside returning Scream 4 star Marley Shelton. The cast of franchise newcomers for the film includes Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison and Kyle Gallner. Following the passing of original director Wes Craven in 2015, development on the new Scream languished in development hell until Spyglass Media Group acquired the rights to the series and signed Ready or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to direct the film with their creative partners James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

The new Scream TV spot marks the most interesting look at the sequel yet in its revelation of the metallic Ghostface mask and the flamethrower-wielding killer. Previous films in the franchise have primarily seen their killers utilize a modified hunting knife on their victims, though Scream 3 did see Wes Craven look to raise the stakes a bit with the house explosion resulting in a gas leak caused by Ghostface in the film. The inclusion of a metallic Ghostface mask and flamethrower could end up being another fake out for the new Scream, as the directors have teased in previous footage for the film, though if it indeed proves to be a weapon used by the latest killer, it would be a pretty exciting new scale.

The other interesting thing of note for the Scream 2022 TV spot is the tease of a return to daytime killing for Ghostface in the new film. The last time the killer took to attacking while the sun was up was in Scream 2 when Jamie Kennedy's fan-favorite Randy was killed on the college campus, with the new trailer seemingly teasing fellow beloved character Judy Hicks being taken out by the latest murderer in broad daylight. Only time will tell when Scream 2022 hits theaters on January 14.
