A new featurette from Scream 2022 has unveiled brand new footage and plot details from the film. Scream will be the fifth entry in the franchise, which all began in 1996 with the original Wes Craven classic of the same name. Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are at the helm this time around, working from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Returning cast members from the original series include Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, and Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks.

Although the official trailer for Scream revealed the general plot outline, not much was previously known about the nature of the film's slasher plot. It is clear that the new iteration of Ghostface is tracking down people related to the original killers from the first four movies, but beyond that cast and crew have remained mum. The new youngsters on the chopping block this time around include Dylan Minnette, Kyle Gallner, Jack Quaid, Mason Gooding, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.

Today, Buzzfeed unveiled an exclusive featurette from Scream that takes a deeper dive into the film's plot. In addition to unveiling new footage from the film, including Ghostface reprising his iconic line, "What's your favorite scary movie," the video explores the background of Melissa Barrera's character Sam. The killer threatens to reveal a deadly secret she carries with her, leading her to reach out to Dewey for help, which explains how the old Scream gang gets back together. Check out the video on Paramount's YouTube below:

"He's still got a huge heart and really wants to help," says Arquette, explaining how Dewey gets drawn back into the murderous mayhem. Neve Campbell also explains that although Sidney has "moved on in her life," she is likewise stricken when "chaos ensues." One interesting factor is that, although Courteney Cox appears in the featurette, it does not detail how Gale Weathers arrives on the scene, potentially to hide the plot detail of whether or not she and Dewey are still married despite the actors portraying them finalizing their divorce in 2013.

The Scream featurette also didn't reveal what secret Sam is attempting to keep hidden, though it's possible to take a stab at guessing. Sam's last name is Carpenter, which doesn't indicate a relationship with any of the characters in the previous films, though it does link her to Jenna Ortega's character Tara Carpenter. Tara has been seen being menaced by Ghostface in many clips and images from the film, so it's possible she dies early on (maybe even in one of the franchise's famed opening sequences) and Sam's secret holds a major clue to her murder.
