Paramount unveils the first images for 2022's Scream seeing the returns of Neve Campbell's Sidney, Courteney Cox's Gale and David Arquette's Dewey. The slasher horror franchise first launched in 1996 with the eponymous film helmed by Wes Craven and written by genre vet Kevin Williamson and centered on Sidney Prescott as she continues to be stalked by a variety of killers donning the Ghostface outfit and must survive with the help of her friends; tabloid reporter Gale Weathers, local police officer Dewey Riley and film geek Randy Meeks. Campbell, Arquette, Cox and Ghostface voice Roger L. Jackson are the only actors to have starred in every film.

The group will return for the new Scream, a relaunch of the horror franchise and a direct sequel to 2011's Scream 4 helmed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The film will also feature an ensemble roster of series newcomers with In the Heights' Melissa Barrera, The Boys' Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, Sonia Ben Ammar and Kyle Gallner. Having concluded production nearly a year ago, audiences are getting ready to get their first taste of what's to come from Scream.

Ahead of the first trailer's arrival for the film, Paramount (via Entertainment Weekly) has offered the first images for next year's Scream relaunch. The images see the returns of Sidney, Gale and Dewey as well as Marley Shelton's Judy Hicks and the introductions of its roster of young franchise newcomers. Check out the exciting first images below:

While the first images of the iconic central trio of the Scream franchise may not offer much in the way of hints towards the film's still-unknown plot, it's nonetheless exciting for longtime fans of the series to see them reunited for another chapter. Additionally, while Marley Shelton was already previously confirmed to be reprising her role of Judy for the new film, it's interesting to note that EW's caption for her image credits her as Sheriff Judy Hicks after having been a deputy in her debut with Scream 4. Though Dewey seemed happy with his position as Woodsboro Sheriff, there's a possibility he stepped down from the job to care for wife Gale following her injuries in the 2011 film.

The images for the new characters of Scream similarly keep the nature of the plot under wraps, the sole exception being Jack Quaid and Melissa Barrera's characters appearing to be a couple in their image. The lone still of Ghostface also shows a purposeful angle in the killer's design to hide any identifying body stature or size to narrow down the potential suspect list, creating another true mystery for the horror sequel. Only time will tell who is really under the mask when Scream arrives in theaters on January 14, 2022.
