Audiences head back to Woodsboro this weekend with the latest installment in the Scream franchise. The film brings back a number of series veterans, but also introduces a new generation of characters for viewers to follow. Two of the newcomers are portrayed by Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savory Brown.

Gooding and Brown spoke to Screen Rant ahead of the film's release to discuss their experience making Scream, favorite franchise moments, and more.

Screen Rant: I'm so excited because we are headed back to Woodsboro. We're back with the legacy cast. But also, you two are kind of carrying on a legacy as well, being the niece and nephew of one Randy Meeks.

Mason Gooding: You want to talk about grounded – Grounded performance from one Jamie Kennedy, who performs as Randy so eloquently and so professionally that as an actor stepping into the niece and nephew roles, Jamie's legacy. You just want to do proper respects, do the process--

Jasmin Savoy Brown: You want to do the process well and you want to make sure that he feels honored and that Wes Craven's legacy is honored and the fans feel celebrated and seen.

Mason Gooding: So maybe the first foray into that character and that archetype that a lot of audience members will be privy to through this movie.

Jasmin Savoy Brown: Yes, they'll be delighted because there's many a throwback, many a nod -- the word nod makes me giggle -- many a nod to the original films, but also we keep it fresh, we keep it new.

If I were to challenge you and ask you if you knew the three rules that Randy gave in the original Scream, do you know them?

Mason Gooding: No sex, no drinking, and never say, "I'll be right back."

Mm hmm. That's right. That's right.

My favorite thing about the Scream franchise is that everyone kind of ranks them differently. Everyone has different moments that they love across the board. Do you have a favorite Scream line or moment across the franchise?

Mason Gooding: Okay ready? 3, 2, 1 [SCREAMS].  For context, that was Mrs. Loomis getting apprehended by foam bricks at the end of Scream 2, because that scene makes me giggle. I think any grown person should be able to survive foam bricks.

I like that one. That was a very specific moment.

Jasmin Savoy Brown: Gotta go with a classic, "Do you like scary movies?"

Mason Gooding: Okay, but give us your best. Your best.

Jasmin Savoy Brown: Actually, [does Ghostface voice] "Hello, Sidney." That was bad. See? No, that wasn't good. It wasn't good.

We've had I think seven Ghostface killers up until this moment. Do you have a favorite killer reveal of the entire franchise?

Jasmin Savoy Brown: It's in the new Scream and we can't tell you what it is.

Mason Gooding: Mine would have to be Mrs. Loomis in Scream 2, mainly for how surprised I was to see that be implemented in the film. And also just the execution, again, is hilarious. And it makes me laugh every time but in an excited, terrified sort of way.
