Scream 5  gained a new cast member in Jack Quaid, who currently stars in Amazon's dark superhero series, The Boys'. The highly-anticipated horror franchise sequel will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, whose credits include last year's bloody romp Ready or NotOriginal Scream writer Kevin Williamson is producing, and the script comes from writers Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt.

Veterans of the Scream film series, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, were both confirmed to reprise their respective roles for the fifth Scream film. Recently, several new casting announcements were made, including Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. Both actresses are new to the horror franchise, and it seems as though much of the film's cast will be as well. Scream 5 is reportedly going into production later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina. The film is currently set for a January 14, 2022 release.

Currently starring as Hughie Campbell in The Boys', actor Jack Quaid is the latest cast announcement for Scream 5, according to Variety. His role is currently unknown at this time, as the plot and story details are still under wraps. Quaid rose to prominence with his turn as Marvel in the original Hunger Games movie, as well as a cameo in that film's first sequel.

Melissa Barrera Cast in Scream 5

The original Scream changed the face of the horror genre after the slashers of the 80s grew stale and predictable. Director Wes Craven turned Kevin Williamson's script into an instant classic. The witty dialogue and self-aware characters were a surprising and welcome addition to the genre, which many felt was taking itself too seriously at the time. Scream 2 was a send-up of horror sequels themselves, and the third film dealt with the rules of trilogies. Scream 5 is set to be released 11 years after Scream 4, which tackled remakes.

Jack Quaid marks the fifth official member added to the film's cast and the third newcomer to the franchise. Although Neve Campbell was in talks to return as Sidney Prescott back in May, she has not been confirmed. Scream 4's ending left almost no room for a sequel to pick up any of the remaining connections to the past or themes in the first four movies, so perhaps Sidney's journey is over, and Scream 5 will focus on a killers obsession with one of the other remaining original characters. Only time will tell who the main focus of Scream 5 will be, but the casting news so far has been nothing short of exciting.
