A new Scream (2022) poster shows Ghostface looming over the franchise's new and classic characters. The masked murderer, also known as the Woodsboro Killer, debuted in the original Scream in 1996 and appeared in all three sequels directed by A Nightmare on Elm Street's Wes Craven. However, the identity has been adopted by several characters. The upcoming fifth installment, also titled Scream, will be the first in the series not helmed by Craven, who passed away in 2015, as Ready or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have now taken over.

Set 25 years after the first film's events, Scream returns to the fictional town of Woodsboro, where a new killer has donned Ghostface's iconic ensemble and begun targeting a group of teenagers to dig up secrets from the town's murderous past. Original stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Marley Shelton, and Roger L. Jackson return for the relaunch of the franchise. Prominent newcomers include Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Mason Gooding (Booksmart), Jenna Ortega (You), Jack Quaid (The Boys), and Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why).

A new poster for the upcoming Scream movie now shows Ghostface looming over many of the series' new and returning characters with his signature bloody blade in hand. Many of the aforementioned actors are also present, from Campbell, Cox, and Arquette's returning trio to new characters played by Barrera, Quaid, Ortega, and more. The poster, which was created by graphic designer Andrew Kern, can be seen below:

Since many characters have donned the trademark black cloak and white mask and terrorized the town of Woodsboro throughout the series, there have been multiple theories predicting who the new Ghostface Killer might be. Sidney (Campbell), Tara (Ortega), Sam (Barrera), and Richie (Quaid) have been the most popular choices. With the tagline, "It's always someone you know," this poster does a great job of simultaneously teasing the identity of the new killer while also highlighting the film's cast of characters.

Just as a previous Scream poster outright admitted, the actual man or woman behind the mask may be on this new poster. The new Scream movie has effectively garnered hype for the upcoming franchise revival with marketing materials like these while still keeping the unknown killer's actual identity shrouded in mystery. The good news is that the wait for Scream is almost over, as it debuts in theaters in just a few days on January 14.
