Official 'Scream 4' Trailer Is Here

There has been a bootlegged version of the Scream 4 trailer floating around, thanks to the 2010 Spike Scream Awards, which premiered the trailer while hundreds of fans in the audience sat recording it on their mobile devices.

As always, we here at Screen Rant don't believe in posting low-quality bootlegs (a single photo is enough to get people riled up about a movie, let alone a fuzzy video), so we've been waiting to post a version of the Scream 4 trailer that will at least give the film a fair chance with moviegoers.

For those who don't know, here's what Scream 4 entails: director Wes Craven is back at the helm for this installment, as are Scream Trilogy stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox. Along with those returning veterans comes a new cast of victims characters comprised of today's young stars, including Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts, Anthony Anderson, Alison Brie, Rory Culkin, Erik Knudsen, Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin.

We've included a synopsis for the film below and then the official Scream 4 trailer after that.

SIDNEY PRESCOTT has been living the last few years of her life in relative silence. Now a guidance counselor for Woodsboro High School, her alma mater, she finally lives her life out of the media spotlight.

But with the discovery of a murdered student, Sidney Prescott’s world will once again be ripped apart by the reemergence of Ghost Face.

It's already been revealed that this fourth film in the Scream franchise will serve as a bridge of sorts, where the older characters we know and (sort of) love effectively "pass the torch" to the younger generation. There also looks to be a good "video voyeur" motif underpinned to this film, reflecting the age of YouTube in much the same way the original Scream dissected the changing tastes of horror movie fans and the emergence of mainstream horror flicks.

Considering how reluctant Neve Campbell was to return to this series, my only question is whether her character, Sidney, will get a dramatic death scene in a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or whether she'll once again wipe the floor with Ghostface before walking off into the sunset (only to be murdered in the opening moments of Scream 5, a la the Friday the 13th Part II). I'm betting we'll get one of those two scenarios.

Scream 4 will hit theaters on April 15, 2011.
