Bourne Ultimatum writer Scott Z. Burns has lined up a big-name cast, including Annette Bening, Adam Driver and Jon Hamm, for his new CIA drama The Torture Report. Unlike Bourne Ultimatum, this depiction of the CIA derives from reality. VICE Studios will produce the film which centers on the CIA's very real post-9/11 rendition and interrogation program, an effort which came under intense scrutiny from the press and Congress.
Burns previously wrote the scripts for three Steven Soderbergh movies, The Informant!, Contagion and Side Effects. He also co-wrote the script for The Bourne Ultimatum, the third in the popular series starring Matt Damon as an indestructible super-spy. His only prior feature film directorial effort is PU-239, a drama about a nuclear power plant employee peddling stolen plutonium.

As reported by Deadline, Burns has lined up several big name actors to star in his next film. Annette Bening, Adam Driver, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Morrison all are in talks for The Torture Report, which Burns will write and direct. Details of the actors' specific characters have not been reported. Danny Gabai, Eddy Moretti, Jennifer Fox, Michael Sugar, Steven Soderbergh, and Kerry Orent are all listed as producers on the project together with Burns himself.
Four-time Oscar nominee Bening starred this year in FX's anthology series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Last year, Bening received a BAFTA nomination for her performance as movie star Gloria Grahame in the drama Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool. Driver of course is coming off his performance as Kylo Ren in a little sequel called Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Later in 2018, he stars as a sort of Sancho Panza alongside Jonathan Pryce's Quixote in Terry Gilliam's agonizingly long-awaited The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Specifically, Driver plays an ad man who goes on an adventure with the delusional would-be knight errant of Miguel de Cervantes' famed novel in Gilliam's film.
Hamm too is keeping very busy, with roles lined up in Neil Gaiman's Good Omens, Noah Hawley's Pale Blue Dot and the silly comedy Tag co-starring Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, and Isla Fisher. He also currently stars as a hostage negotiator in Beirut, another timely drama involving affairs in the Middle East. Morrison, meanwhile, will play a detective in the upcoming Blaxploitation remake Superfly. Morrison's long-time gig on Once Upon a Time is of course fully coming to an end with the series wrapping up after the current season.
