Distributor Limited Run Games is opening preorders next week for limited physical releases of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition. The title, published by Ubisoft, originally launched digitally in 2010 to coincide with the movie release. A side-scrolling beat 'em up, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game instantly became a classic. Unfortunately, the game was delisted from digital platforms in December 2014, making purchases impossible.

In a surprise move last September, Ubisoft celebrated the film's 10th anniversary by announcing Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition, a digital re-release of the game that had been delisted for approximately six years. A few months later, the publisher confirmed a January 2021 launch date; meanwhile, franchise creator Bryan Lee O'Malley promised to work on ensuring fans would be able to pick up physical copies at a later date. Evidently, someone's been doing something right.

Earlier today, Limited Run Games (via Twinfinite) announced limited run physical editions of the title for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Preorders go live next week on Friday, January 15 at 10:00am EST, but will only remain available for a six-week period on Limited Run's official website. Limited Run plans to unleash three different editions in total - Standard, Classic, and K.O. The Standard Edition, priced at $34.99, will come packaged with a physical copy of the game, reversible cover, commemorative concert ticket, and an instruction booklet. For $54.99, fans can get the Classic Edition, featuring all of the regular version's contents, CD soundtrack, deluxe clamshell retro box, folded overworld map, and sticker sheet. The K.O. Edition, priced at $139.99, packages all of the above in an "authentic hardshell roadie case box with a pop-up scene." Customers can expect the hardshell case to also boast working lights and music from the band Anamanaguchi. While the current preorders are only available for PS4 and Switch, Limited Run said it plans to roll out Xbox One versions "at a future date."

These offers seem perfect for players that have long wanted to get their hands on a physical copy of the game. Some fans were especially dismayed by the re-release's digital announcement, since another delisting could plague the title in the future. At the very least, Limited Run Games' recent news provides more purchasing options.

While the six-week preorder window is generous, it's a shame the physical release is limited. Those who aren't in the know will likely miss out. The same holds true for anyone who becomes interested in the game at a much later date. But here's hoping that all fans who want a copy now are able to secure one when preorders go live. The Classic and K.O. Editions with extras like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game's stellar soundtrack are bound to sell like hotcakes.
