New Scooby-Doo fan art imagines Velma and Daphne on the covers of their own pulp mystery novels. Velma and Daphne have been key characters in the Mystery Inc. gang since Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! aired in 1969. The pair have been staples of the franchise for decades, recently getting their own spotlight shined on them in the adult animated comedy Velma.

Now, Hannah Rose has posted fan art to Instagram that sees Velma and Daphne on the covers of their own Scooby-Doo pulp mystery novels.

Rose explains she wanted to use Daphne's cover to capture her evolution through the decades, with Daphne no longer always a damsel in distress. Velma's cover also has a line referencing a running gag in the franchise, where she is prone to losing her glasses.

How Velma & Daphne Have Evolved In Scooby-Doo's History

Velma: Daphne & Velma in HBO show

In the original 1969 series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, Daphne was portrayed as a helpful yet clumsy member of Mystery Inc., while Velma was the intelligent skeptic. Both characters have evolved over the years, from the love interests of Fred and Shaggy, to stars of their own mysteries. This includes the 2018 live-action movie Daphne & Velma, which sees the pair meeting one another and investigating a mystery in Ridge Valley.

Velma also saw Velma at the forefront of her own mystery, with Daphne having complicated, possibly romantic feelings for Velma. However, while Velma and Daphne had major roles in Velma, the series was widely panned by audiences who felt it was unfaithful to the Scooby-Doo franchise. Velma season 2 has been greenlit despite audience backlash, which could address criticisms audiences have for season 1.

Rose's art underscores just how memorable Velma and Daphne are as key members of Mystery Inc. With more Velma on the way and new Scooby-Doo projects being produced constantly, Velma and Daphne will seemingly have strong roles in TV and film for many years to come. The Scooby-Doo franchise branching out to more adult-themed shows like Velma could mean more reimaginings of Velma and Daphne are in store for the future.
