2002's Scooby-Doo movie hit a milestone this year and turned 20. After more than 30 years on TV, the loveable canine finally made his debut on the silver screen, and not only did the movie make a massive change to the franchise (this time, the monsters were real) but it was also helmed by an all-star cast of talented actors and media personalities.

From Sarah Michelle Gellar to Linda Cardellini, many of the actors in the movie were praised for their realistic portrayals of the characters, with exceptional praise given to Matthew Lillard's Shaggy. But, 20 years later, audiences are asking ... where are they now?

Freddie Prinze Jr. - Fred

Fred was played by Freddie Prinze Jr., who really hammed up the character's reputation for being the dumb jock and the gang's resident hot guy. Complete with dyed hair and an ascot, he pulled off the role perfectly.

Since his time chasing monsters, Freddie Prinze Jr. went on to star in his own sitcom, Freddie, which was sadly canceled after just one season in 2006. In more recent years, he's become a fixture in the Star Wars universe, voicing Jedi Kanan Jarrus, a prominent character in Star Wars Rebels. He later went on to reprise the role in The Rise of Skywalker and The Bad Batch.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Daphnie

At the time of Scooby-Doo's release, Sarah Michelle Gellar was at the height of her fame, starring in Buffy and having big films like Cruel Intentions under her belt. However, her career was about to see her highest-grossing acting role ever. In 2004, Gellar starred in the U.S. adaption of the Japanese horror hit, The Grudge.

It went on to gross over $187 million at the box office and returned for a sequel in 2006, which also featured Gellar. At the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, it was also revealed that Gellar is about to have a massive career renaissance. She's not only going to star in Clerks III, but she also scored a starring role in the upcoming Paramount+ Teen Wolf spin-off, Wolf Pack.

Matthew Lillard - Shaggy

Before Scooby-Doo, Matthew Lillard was best known for his roles in horror movies like Scream and Thirteen Ghosts. And while Lillard is an avid horror fan and has remained a part of the Scream franchise (He can be spotted in Scream 2 and voices Ghostface in Stab 8 from the new Scream), he's still best-known as Shaggy.

In fact, he continues to voice the character to this day, starring as Shaggy in almost 40 projects spanning everything from movies to TV series, and even in video games. The most recent incarnation of the franchise was in 2021 with HBO Max's Scooby-Doo and Guess Who.

Linda Cardellini - Velma

Playing the gang's brainy mastermind, Velma, Linda Cardellini made the role her own and managed to bring some excellent laughs along the way. The year after starring in Scooby-Doo, Cardellini joined the cast of ER until 2009, starring in 126 episodes. However, audiences probably know her best for currently portraying Laura Barton in the MCU and her role in Netflix's Emmy-nominated black comedy, Dead to Me.

What fans might not know is that Cardellini actually returned to Scooby-Doo from 2011-2013, having a reoccurring role in the Cartoon Network series, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, where she voiced various characters and even got to reunite with Lillard who voiced Shaggy on the show.

Rowan Atkinson - Mr. Mondavarious

Mr. Mondavarious was the reclusive oddball who ran the Spooky Island resort. To most viewers, he probably looked very familiar. That's because the actor, Rowan Atkinson, was already famous for the character, Mr. Bean. After filming, Atkinson went on to star in more Mr. Bean projects and even created the Johnny English character, who was a spoof on 007.

Since the first Johnny English movie in 2003, Atkinson has reprised the role two more times, with the most recent film, Johnny English Strikes Again, premiering in 2018. Atkinson's next project will be starring in 2023's Wonka, a prequel to the Willy Wonka series.

Isla Fisher - Mary Jane

Shaggy's love interest in the movie, Mary Jane, is played by Isla Fisher. The role was one of her first big in Hollywood, though she had already been starring in the Australian soap opera, Home and Away, for years.

After the movie, she continued scoring gigs, including Wedding CrashersNow You See Me, and a reoccurring role on the Arrested Development reboot. In 2022 she starred in the dramedy thriller, Wolf Like Me, on Peacock, which has been renewed for a second season that's set to air sometime next year.

Pamela Anderson - Herself

At the start of the film, the gang is on one of their typical missions: to stop the "ghost" haunting ... Pamela Anderson's toy factory. It was a laugh-out-loud cameo appearance because of how unexpected it was to see Pamela Anderson play herself as the owner of a toy factory.

Since 2002, she's had further cameos in films like Scary Movie 3 and the Baywatch movie in 2017. Most recently, audiences were given an in-depth look into her sex tape scandal with the Hulu miniseries, Pam and Tommy, which received critical praise and even a few unexpected Emmy nominations.

Sugar Ray - Himself

The band, Sugar Ray, made for another cameo in the movie, seen performing on the island. In 2002, the band was at the tail-end of their success, with all of their major hits already out and well-worn on the radio.

Since the film's release, Sugar Ray has only released two albums, neither of which achieved much success. However, the band's frontman, Mark McGrath, has turned into a bit of a TV personality, competing in reality shows like The Masked Singer and Celebrity Big Brother.
