SCOOB! Trailer Reveals How Scooby-Doo Got His Name

The SCOOB! trailer reveals a first look at Warner Bros' upcoming 3D animated Scooby-Doo movie starring Zac Efron, Gina Rodriguez and more.

Young Shaggy and Scooby-Doo in SCOOB

The SCOOB! trailer reveals a first look at Warner Bros' upcoming 3D computer-animated Scooby-Doo movie. The long-running cartoon franchise first kicked off in 1969 as the animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, which introduced generations of audiences to the Mystery Inc. gang. The series established what has become the typical form of most Scooby-Doo shows and movies: A group of young sleuths and their trusty great dane investigate mysterious happenings, and deduce the logical, if mundane, explanation behind things like ghosts and monsters.

In SCOOB!, Scooby-Doo (Frank Welker) will once again be joined by the four original members of Mystery Inc., including his closest friend and fellow scaredy cat Shaggy Rogers (Will Forte), Fred Jones (Zac Efron), Velma Dinkley (Gina Rodriguez) and Daphne Blake (Amanda Seyfried). Recently, Warner Bros. released the first SCOOB! images, revealing the 3D computer-animated designs of the latest incarnation of the Mystery Inc. gang. Now, the first trailer gives fans a better idea of what to expect from the new movie.

Warner Bros. released the first SCOOB! movie trailer, offering a good idea of what the 2020 Scooby-Doo film will look like. Check out the trailer below.

The SCOOB! official trailer starts off with a meta bit between Shaggy and Scooby as they endeavor to introduce the trailer itself. With Welker back as the voice of Scooby-Doo, the beloved great dane sounds just as he always does, while Forte offers his own spin on Shaggy. Then the trailer actually begins, and sets up the premise of the movie as an origin story for not only the dynamic duo of Shaggy and Scooby, but the whole Mystery Inc. gang. Based on this trailer, they run into their first ghost as a team on Halloween, and stick together, tackling their latest mystery when Shaggy and Scooby are abducted.

On the whole, SCOOB! appears to be a departure from the typical Scooby-Doo mystery, especially with the addition of the mythology of the Falcon Fury - a ship that likely belongs to a character from previous Scooby-Doo stories called the Blue Falcon. But whereas the Blue Falcon was a fictional superhero played by a bitter actor in the 2012 animated movie Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon, it seems the character might be an actual superhero in SCOOB! Or, perhaps it's someone disguised as a superhero to use the Blue Falcon persona as a front for no good. There's no doubt more to the story of SCOOB! than this trailer reveals, and fans will just have to wait and see what else Warner Bros' new take on Scooby-Doo has up its sleeves.
