Fans of both franchises have longed to see Sigourney Weaver return as Ellen Ripley (has it really been 11 years since Alien 4 ?) and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as Dutch from the original Predator. While Weaver has noted interest in another Alien film (along with Ridley Scott) it looked like there was no chance of seeing Arnold back in the camouflage fighting alien hunters in Predator 3.
Not so says Predator producer John Davis...
Davis says that he has talked to Schwarzenegger and the star has shown an interest in returning to films - if he doesn't continue with his political career when his Governorship is over. Davis said:
"Well, the Governor has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn't run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he'd like to do a movie or two again. And I don't know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise."
When pressed by Frosty at Collider.com for further details the producer said:
"Well we'd have to come up with a really good script and a really great angle on it, but Predator was the first movie I was ever involved with, so it's always going to have a really soft spot in my heart."
While not a confirmation that Schwarzenegger would be starring in another Predator film, it doesn't look that it's out of the realm of possibility. Also, now that it looks like the Terminator franchise has moved on without him, the aging action star may want to star in a sequel to another classic film with "brand name recognition."
Moviehole points out that a couple of years ago a spec (non-sanctioned) script did the rounds that featured Dutch battling a Predator in a snowy New York, but alas nothing ever came of it.
However, with this new information giving us a new hope - might Arnold really be back?
Wouldn't that be cool!
