The first teaser trailer for Netflix's adaptation of The School For Good And Evil has arrived. Based on the fairytale novel series written by Soman Chainani, The School For Good And Evil is the first book in the seven-volume series that focuses on children who are taken to an "enchanted institution." There, they are trained to become fairytale heroes (Evers) or villains (Nevers). The film is directed by Paul Feig and stars Charlize Theron as Lady Lesso, Kerry Washington as Professor Dovey, Michelle Yeoh as Professor Anemone, and Laurence Fishburne as The School Master. Sophia Anne Caruso plays co-lead Sophie, while Sofia Wylie plays the other co-lead, Agatha, with additional cast members including Ben Kingsley, Rob Delaney, and Rachel Bloom.

Debuting in 2013, The School For Good And Evil has since gone on to be a popular best-selling series, completing the final book in the saga in 2020. The first book sets up the main characters of Sophie and Agatha, who are children from the village of Gavaldon that are whisked away and brought to the magical school, where they find their fates aren't what they expected. Sophie always dreamed of being a good princess, while Agatha always presented as being on the darker side. However, the pair find themselves on opposite sides at The School for Good and Evil, where they must contend with their new roles and find out if it truly represents their destiny in the land of The Endless Woods.

Netflix has shared many teases of The School For Good And Evil throughout production, showing the streamer has a lot invested in the new project. Thus far, images of many of the main players have been shared, as well as behind-the-scenes video teases, including an introduction to The Coven, which consists of Demi Isaac Oviawe as Anadil, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi as Dot, and Freya Theodora Parks as Hester. Additional video teases were shown in Netflix's 2022 movie line-up trailer, whetting the appetite for fans of the series even further with a first look at both Theron and Washington's characters. So far, The School For Good and Evil has enjoyed a long, drawn-out reveal that has increased anticipation among both original book series fans and newcomers alike.

In recent years, Netflix has been working diligently to compete in the fantasy genre with shows like The Witcher and Shadow and Bone, but The School For Good and Evil has the potential to stake a claim in the feature franchise part of its streaming model. The saga has more than a few similarities to another massive magical franchise set within a Wizarding school in Harry Potter, and could very well be a game-changer for Netflix if it pulls in high viewership numbers. The streamer is also contending with Amazon's The Lord of the Rings series in terms of release date, which is sure to eat up plenty of attention. However, the clear winner in this race is the audience (and particularly fans of fantasy), as there doesn't appear to be an end in sight for the genre on major streaming services, with The School For Good and Evil set to be yet another exciting entry.
