Schitt’s Creek can be explained briefly as the constant evolution of a family that was forced to spend their time in a small town after losing all their money. The Roses look completely out of place initially in the town with their extravagant fashion sense and entitlement. But they slowly immerse in the activities in Schitt’s Creek and become a part of the town.
The makers of the show ensured that all the Roses completed their character arc through consistent changes and growth, which is one of the reasons why the show is widely popular. However, the imprints of their old lavish life remain with them, and this can be observed till the end of the show.
Matured: Schitt’s Creek Is Home
The Roses were forced to move to Schitt’s Creek when they went bankrupt, and so they hated the town initially. However, the viewers see them starting to appreciate the town and the people there as the show progresses. The final episode of Season 2 had a very heartwarming sequence where Johnny defended the town in front of his classy old friends who were being very condescending about it.
Johnny later partnered with Stevie’s in her motel business, Moira joined the town council, Alexis completed her college, and David started a business. Everyone in the family started building their life there and thus made the place they hated once their home.

Despite going into bankruptcy, the Roses continued to maintain their luxurious fashion sense. Throughout the show, the attire of the Roses contrasts largely with every other resident of the town.
The glittery and glamorous costumes they wear to every occasion in the town always catch the eye of every invitee, and this has remained the same throughout the show. Even in the finale, the fans see Alexis walking down the aisle in bridal wear during David’s and Patrick’s marriage.
Matured: Moving On From The Past
The Roses always kept pride in the affluent past they had, which is evident from their conversations with the townspeople that reference their lavish lifestyle. At Schitt’s Creek, their former friends sent them a gigantic family portrait that they had been storing.
After multiple failed attempts to place the portrait in the motel, Johnny dumped it in a trash heap and mentioned that there is no point holding onto the past. He further added that their old friends did them a favor helping them move on from their past.
Didn’t Mature: Moira’s Love For Wigs
One of the visual treats in the beloved sitcom is the wide range of wigs that Moira Rose uses. She has unique wigs for every occasion, and she treats them better than her kids.
She even named the wigs, evident from some of the instances in the show where she called the wigs by names like Maureen, Kristen, Magdalena, etc. In the show’s initial episode, Moira is seen violently arguing with the officials clearing Rose Manor for touching her wigs, and the fans do not see a change in this attitude till the finale.

Before moving into Schitt’s Creek, the Roses never spent any time together with the family. Johnny had his business to deal with, Moira was living the retired actress life, David was immersed in the fashion world, and Alexis was always away on her adventures.

The Roses were very hung up on their past friendships when they initially came to the town of Schitt’s Creek. Although they looked down on their new friends initially, their perspective soon changes.
The Schitt family, who Johnny and Moira found disgusting in the initial season, became their closest friends. The viewers see Johnny standing up for Schitt’s and the town when their old friends Don and Bev start making fun of the town. Just like their parents, David and Alexis also found friends in Stevie and Twyla respectively, who helped them gain some qualities and grow.

The Roses have a unique style of communication that they carried with them from their past life. Since they were really emotionally distant from each other, the conversations between them are filled with sarcasm.
This did not change till the end of the show. Even though they eventually grew to show their love and affection for one another, the style of talking, and the inherent sarcasm never really went away.

The Roses were in a very affluent position before the bankruptcy. After coming to Schitt’s Creek, their financial constraints made them look for career opportunities.
David started a store in the town called ‘Rose Apothecary.’ Alexis completed her degree at Elmdale College and started working in her own PR firm. Moira got back into acting, and Johnny built a new motel chain partnering with Stevie. The fans see a gradual growth in the careers of all the family members.
Didn’t Mature: Their Sense Of Privilege
One thing that stayed with all of the Roses throughout the show is their sense of privilege. Although they matured heavily because of their experiences, their past had instilled a sense of privilege in them. By getting accustomed to this lifestyle where they got everything they wanted, they could never lead a life like normal people.
Even as this sense of entitlement led to numerous instances of humor that made the viewers burst into laughs, it cannot be ignored that till the very end, the Roses expected things to just happen for them.
