Ted Mullens appeared in the first season of Schitt’s Creek as a love interest for Alexis Rose. There weren’t many men that caught Alexis' eye in Schitt’s Creek until she met Ted. He wasn’t just easy on the eyes; he was successful and independent. He was also unlike any man that Alexis had ever met. Unbeknownst to her, Ted was everything that she needed without realizing it.
Alexis and Ted’s love story wasn’t always smooth sailing, however. Once Mutt was in the picture, Alexis realized that a future with Ted was never going to work. But as time went on and Alexis matured, she realized what a good catch Ted was and that she was in love with him. Due to the ups and downs of their relationship, plenty of sad realizations came to be about Ted Mullens.
He Finally Got The Girl (And Then Lost Her)
It's not known what Ted's dating life was like before Alexis but his heart dropped when he first met her. Whether it was Alexis as the person she was or the idea of Alexis, Ted fell in love with her almost immediately. Sadly, Alexis ended things with Ted after realizing that she wasn't going to be in Schitt's Creek forever. There was no future for them.
As the series continued, Ted and Alexis got back together after they matured and got to know each other better. But when a job in the Galapagos Islands came his way, he and Alexis chose their careers over their relationship. Ted was back to being heartbroken by the final season.
Alexis Cheated On Him
Alexis and Mutt had sexual chemistry from the start that was different from her connection with Ted. Not wanting to ruin things with Ted, Alexis stayed friends with Mutt and didn't entertain her physical longing for him. But once Ted proposed to Alexis and the idea of leaving Schitt's Creek came up, Alexis threw her relationship out the window and slept with Mutt.
Some fans even feel that Alexis emotionally cheated on Ted. Ted never deserved to be treated like second best or to have his heart played with. If Alexis wasn't ready to fully commit to Ted, she should have said something earlier.
His Friends Hated Alexis
After Ted and Alexis stopped dating different people and matured, they honored their feelings and got back together. They were better than ever after getting to know each other on a deeper level while working together at the clinic.
Sadly for Alexis, the games she played with Ted's heart at the beginning of their relationship never sat right with his friends. In one episode, Ted warned Alexis that his friends were judging her and didn't think she was right for him after their rocky past. Alexis wasn't used to people not liking her and felt intimidated, but could she really blame them? Nevertheless, it was hard for Ted to be in the middle of his friends and girlfriend.
He's Judged For Being "Too Nice"
One of the reasons why Alexis' feelings for Ted changed at the beginning was because he was too nice. He was the ultimate people-pleaser and didn't want to disappoint anyone. Alexis tried to break that mold in Ted but it pushed him away.
Eventually, the couple did a little exercise where Ted said everything that was on his mind. Speaking his truth made him more relatable and sexier in Alexis' eyes. But that wasn't who Ted was deep down. He was genuinely a nice guy who didn't like letting people down, and yet he was judged for it by both Alexis and Mutt.
He Used To Be Bullied
Due to how sweet and good-natured Ted was, he was a target of bullying in his younger years. Mutt told Alexis that he used to make fun of Ted in high school, which made the relationship between Alexis, Mutt, and Ted all the more dramatic. Ted was in love with the woman who was also mooning over his bully.
When comparing Ted and Mutt, it's clear as day that Ted came out on top. Sure, he stayed close to home in a small town but he got his doctorate and was the vet at his own clinic. He proved that nice guys can finish first. Mutt was still a lost soul of sorts, chasing whatever came his way.
A Full-Circle Moment Between Cheryl And Alexis
When Ted's mom, Cheryl, came to Schitt's Creek to visit Ted for a short time, fans got to know more about the woman who raised Ted. Johnny only met Cheryl once and warned Stevie about what she was like. But upon meeting her, Cheryl was nothing like the person Johnny described. After separating from Ted's stepdad, Cheryl was a new woman in every way.
If fans take a closer look at Cheryl's personality, glimmers of Alexis shine through. Now that Cheryl was in shape and confident, she was slightly aloof and self-centered. She mirrored a younger Alexis, proving that there was a full-circle moment with Ted. He was chasing the girl who acted like his mother.
The Bunny Cam
When Alexis got more involved with Ted's work, she set up a live camera where viewers could watch cute bunnies hop about at the clinic. Ted's veterinary rival was using his sex appeal to gain more business, which was not the way Ted wanted to do things. He didn't think it was credible to use his body to gain patients with sick pets. A live bunny cam was just the ticket to gain more website traffic.
Unfortunately for Ted, he forgot about the bunny cam and didn't realize he could be seen in the background. He was seen sweaty and naked while the cut bunnies hopped around. Ted was mortified when he found out that he was unknowingly doing what his rival was doing.
