The real-life mansion of the Rose family from Schitt’s Creek has been put up for sale for $17.7 million. The Canadian sitcom was created by father-and-son team, Eugene and Dan Levy in 2015. The duo also starred in the show as father, Johnny Rose, and son, David Rose, alongside Catherine O’Hara as Moira Rose, Annie Murphy as Alexis Rose, and Emily Hampshire as Stevie Budd. Schitt’s Creek follows the Rose family, who have been defrauded by a business manager and consequently lost their entire fortune including their family home. Their only asset not seized was a small town named Schitt’s Creek. In their new home, they rebuild their lives and forge strong bonds with the townsfolk and their family.

After six successful seasons, totaling in about 80 episodes, the show ended with the intention to maintain the quality of the work rather than stretch out the show for as long as possible. The series gained a massive fan base and praise for its inclusion and portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters, including David’s relationship with Patrick (Noah Reid). Schitt’s Creek was highly praised in its final season, winning nine Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, out of 15 nominations.

Today, The Wrap reports the real-life mansion that appears as the family home of the Roses has been put on the market. The “La Belle Maison” mansion was designed by Van Lapoyan and is located in one of Toronto’s wealthiest neighborhoods, St. Andrew-Windfields. The home has appeared in two episodes of Schitt’s Creek: the pilot episode and in a flashback in season 5. With 12 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a heated driveway with room for 14 cars, both an indoor and outdoor pool, and an aquarium, this beautiful property is listed for $17.7 million or $21.88 million Canadian.

The Roses and Stevie stand out front of Rosebud Motel on Schitts Creek

The home has already been listed twice before, once in February for $11.8 million and again a month later for $16 million. This is not the first Schitt’s Creek locale to be put up for sale. Late in 2020, the Rosebud motel from the series also hit the market. Both buildings were homes to the Roses through the series, though each offered a totally different lifestyle to the family. The lavish mansion surely is the place for a family like the Roses when the series first begins, but as the family learns and grows, they find themselves content with the downsized life they’ve created at the motel.

It truly is astonishing to see both of these symbolic buildings to the Rose family for sale. The series concludes with the entire Rose family far better off than they were at the start of the show, though still without their fortune. It would be interesting to see if Johnny and Moira would purchase their old home again, or if they would simply let it be while they enjoy their new adventure. The Schitt’s Creek locale will surely make a fine home for someone.
