Warning: SPOILERS for the Schitt's Creek series finale.

After six wonderful seasons, Schitt's Creek ended with a big series finale that sent the Rose family in new directions. Emotions were all over the place in the Schitt's Creek series finale revolving around David and Patrick's wedding, and viewers had no choice but to keep tissues nearby. After spending years living in a run-down motel, the Rose family said goodbye to that chapter of their lives by splitting up. Here's what happened to each main character before check-out time arrived at Rosebud Motel.

Schitt's Creek, the Canadian comedy on CBC, first debuted in 2015. It starred Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy as a family forced to flee to a podunk town after losing their large fortune. At first, the Rose family wasn't equipped to handle their new lifestyle which included living in a run-down motel, but with the help of fellow townspeople, they learned to embrace their surroundings.

When the series was added to Netflix, Schitt's Creek's popularity skyrocketed. Despite the good buzz and growing ratings, series creators Eugene and Dan Levy decided Schitt's Creek season 6 would be the show's last. The final season wasted no time by planting seeds in how Schitt's Creek would end. From the start, it was clear that not every member of the Rose family would remain in Schitt's Creek. Johnny (Eugene Levy) was chasing a business venture while Moira (O'Hara) found an acting gig. Meanwhile, David (Dan Levy) was preparing for his wedding and Alexis (Murphy) was dealing with other major changes. With Schitt's Creek now in the rearview, it's important to acknowledge how much these characters grew in that small town.

David & Patrick Got Their Happy Ending

David's perfect wedding day didn't exactly go as planned, at least at the beginning. After putting together a dream scenario, David was woken up by his family on the morning of his wedding day with some bad news. A horrible rainstorm moved in and ruined any chance of having an outdoor ceremony. This caused some last-minute adjustments, including a change of venue. Patrick (Noah Reid), the calmer of the pair, teamed up with Johnny and other key townspeople to make the best out of a tough situation. After declining Roland's living room as an option, Patrick decided on having the ceremony at the Town Hall building.

It wouldn't have been Schitt's Creek wedding without a few blunders. Thankfully, Patrick set up David with a massage to de-stress. David's calm demeanor reverted a bit when he found out that his sister would be walking him down the aisle in what looked like her own wedding dress. All that aside, the ceremony was beautiful as the tears streaming from the characters were clearly that of the cast saying farewell to everything they've built over the past six years.

As a nod to the first time the couple shared an "I love you," Patrick sang “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey in place of his vows. In response, David's vows served as a heartfelt speech about not feeling true love until he met Patrick. They exchanged rings, shared a kiss, and were officially united. Although the reception wasn't shown, the citizens of Schitt's Creek clearly partied the night away. David and Patrick were in attendance when Johnny and Moira left for California in what served as a final goodbye to the Rose family. The newlyweds will stay in town as they move into a house and continue running Rose Apothecary. The rest is a mystery, but it doesn't matter because David got his real happy ending in the Schitt's Creek series finale.

Johnny & Moira Left Town For California

Johnny and Moira say goodbye to their kids outside in Schitt's Creek

Even though Johnny and Moira were preparing to leave town, they pushed that focus aside to lift up their son on his big day. As parents, they each stepped up in their own way. Johnny took charge of finding a new wedding venue that would suit David's expectations while Moira volunteered to officiate. They both did the best with what they could but Moira was given the opportunity to appropriately steal the show one last time. As Moira emerged down the aisle to officiate the union of Patrick and her son, she was dressed like a pope, who looked like she was plucked from the set of Vikings. Her long blonde hair nearly reached her ankles and somehow wrapped around her headpiece. After a few inaudible gasps due to overwhelming emotion, Moira powered through as the officiant.

The next morning, Johnny and Moira packed the car as set out for California. David, Alexis, Patrick, and Stevie (Emily Hampshire) were there to see them off. Before they went, Moira made her kids promise that her wigs would be sent in a temperature-controlled shipment. As the group embraced, the kids looked more visibly upset. It was almost as if Johnny and Moira knew that their kids would be okay as they enter new chapters in life. All four members of the Rose family evolved during their time living in Schitt's Creek but David and Alexis finally found value in themselves as individuals. Johnny and Moira were clearly content with their kids' newfound independence.

Alexis Prepared For Her Next Chapter After The Schitt's Creek Finale

Following the news that her parents were moving to California while David was staying in Schitt's Creek, Alexis had to come to terms with relocating to New York City by herself. Twyla (Sarah Levy) offered to help financially but Alexis realized the need to tackle these challenges on her own. Out of all of the characters, Alexis showed the most growth from when her family first moved to town. She bravely accepted heartbreak while subsequently testing her worth in a new career. That said, it wouldn't be the Alexis we knew and loved if she didn't try to get a little of the spotlight during her brother's wedding in the Schitt's Creek finale.

It was a bit surprising that David didn't make Alexis get his approval in terms of wedding attire. Considering her sense of fashion, he must have had faith in his sister but her white floor-length gown proved otherwise. Even though David worried that attendees would think the siblings were marrying each other, he took the time to share how much she has impressed him during that period of their life. David and Alexis were given the chance to share one sweet, final moment before their lives would forever change.

Throughout the Schitt's Creek series finale, leaving the motel and saying goodbye to the family dynamic hit Alexis the hardest. She was visibly saddened about the changes in terms of her family's location but she was also ready to move on. The series didn't show her leave town but even when she did, she would be close enough to drop in on her brother from time to time. Alexis may have outgrown Schitt's Creek but the small town left an everlasting mark on her.

Stevie Said Goodbye To The Family That Welcomed Her As One Of Their Own

As David's maid of honor, Stevie stood by his side in more ways than one. After being his best friend since moving to town, Stevie had never let David down. When the wedding plans went awry, Stevie helped steer the adjustments in the right direction. Of course, she still had her snarky remarks and hilarious interjections, Stevie was there to the end. Out of all of the characters featured in the finale, Stevie was one of the most emotional. This was most likely another situation in which the tears from the cast blended with their fictional counterparts.

It was also befitting that Stevie was one of the few to see Johnny and Moira leave town the next morning. It was only right that she be there for the motel's final appearance considering she went from clerk to owner to a major business partner. Stevie and Johnny always had a special bond, almost like a father-daughter relationship, so it was special to see them embrace even though they will be working together for the long-term, albeit on different coasts. Stevie was another character that took a big leap with character development, but it was joyful knowing that she wouldn't be left alone in town.

One of the best aspects of Schitt's Creek was the eccentric group of secondary characters that made up the small town. Thankfully, they were given one more chance to shine by helping to redesign David and Patrick's wedding. Figures like Roland (Chris Elliot), Jocelyn (Jenn Robertson), and Ronnie (Karen Robinson) all stepped up to make the ceremony unforgettable. Jocelyn and the Jazzagals stood along the walls of Town Hall to sign a heartfelt rendition of "Precious Love" which was also the song that the Rose family danced to in Schitt's Creek season 2. When Alexis walked David down the aisle, the ladies switched to Tina Turner's "The Best," which became a symbol of David and Patrick's romance.

Roland also gave Johnny one last gift before leaving the town, bringing the entire series together in a full-circle moment. After questioning the "Welcome to Schitt's Creek" sign when he first moved to town, Johnny took one last look as they drove away. He learned that Roland had Johnny and Moira's faces imposed on the sign's creek scene, with David and Alexis added in the background, as a parting gift. Johnny had always accepted the positive affects the town had on his family and the smile on his face as he got one more glimpse was simply the best.
