The sixth and final season of Schitt’s Creek will premiere in January on Pop TV. The Canadian sitcom, which has nabbed three nominations at this Sunday’s Emmy awards, has seen a remarkable spike in interest recently.

Debuting in 2015, Schitt’s Creek follows the lives of the wealthy Rose family. After losing their fortune, thanks to being defrauded by their business manager, they are forced to start over with the only asset that’s left to their name: a small town, known as Schitt’s Creek. The once well-off family of four relocate, moving into two rooms at a neglected motel. Adjusting to their new surroundings, the Rose family’s attitude of privilege clashes with the more local residents of the small towns. The sitcom was created by the father and son duo of Eugene and Daniel Levy. They also star in the show, along with Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy and Chris Elliot.

The Wrap reported that Schitt’s Creek will return for season 6 on January 7, 2020. The reveal of the premiere date for the final season, which will consist of 14 episodes, comes as Schitt’s Creek is the first Pop TV program to be recognized by the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show is nominated in the acting categories for Eugene Levy’s performance as video store tycoon Johnny, as well for O’Hara’s portrayal of former soap opera actress Moira. Schitt’s Creek is also up for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Speaking of the show, Pop TV president Brad Schwartz referred to Schitt’s Creek as a pop culture phenomenon that is fueled by a talented cast and a devoted fanbase. While he noted that the end of the show will be ‘gut-wrenching’, Schwartz promised that the remaining episodes would continue to deliver the heartfelt humor that viewers have come to expect. During its run, the sitcom has been included in lists for the best television shows currently airing by notable publications and significant critics.

Part of that popularity, that spike in interest, is due to the fact that the show began streaming on Netflix in January 2017. The easy accessibility of the streaming platform has helped to propel Breaking Bad into grand heights; leading to a spinoff and an upcoming movie, not to mention worldwide recognition. The same also helped to revive a classic like Friends, which has proved to be one of the most popular shows to stream. The legacy of Schitt’s Creek remains to be seen. But, for now, audiences have an official date for when the sitcom’s final season begins.
